Negotiating with AD on tt-blue Sub (116613LB)

Greetings everyone,

Curious as to what others have paid recently for 116613LB's. Sticker is $13,400. I know a lot depends on the relationship with the AD, current inventory, geographic location, etc. I'm just looking to get a sense of what these typically sell for and how much room AD's have to work on the price. This will be my first Rolex purchase and I would really prefer to buy from an AD because I don't want the uncertainty that comes with a purchase on the internet. Obviously, I know the AD needs to make money, but I also don't want to pay full retail and then be down 30% on this thing as soon as I walk out the door.

I would be surprised if you got any discount whatsoever on a Submariner unless it's the 18k model.

I'm seeing these all over the place online, brand new in box, for msrp. So it's not like a ss sub or Daytona that are impossible to find at sticker. And if a watch store is selling it for $13,400 on ebay, they're probably only netting $11,500 after fees. Of course, they are online and don't have the overhead of an AD.

You would not be 30 % down once you walked out the door in this
market. In addition the TT Bluesy Sub C and it's 5 digit predecessor
have been the best value retention TT Rolex for a long time.

In this market you might shoot for a 5 to 10 % discount plus no tax
if you can have it shipped out of state. Preowned secondary market
is $11K to 12K right now and even more depending on condition
and age of warranty card/full set... etc...

Then again if no AD relationship you might not get a discount..
Keep searching around and scout the market until you find an AD
that is willing to negotiate. You never know!

I bought one in June, 2018 from an AD with whom I have a good relationship. I got 10% off. I think if it was someone off the street with no track record, they would be paying retail.

I got mine last year for MSRP. In this market I’d be surprised if you were able to get any discount.

You'll take a hit if you resell it so you might as well get past that. 10% in today's market is probably fair but I'm sure some ADs will stick with retail.

Welcome to TRF.

Search and try a few ADs and negotiate a discount. In this climate with no purchase history or AD relationship it may not be so easy. 30% discount on a TT 116613LB is a very big ask, you may be able to get a good discount on full gold. Good luck on your search you may be able to get 10% depending on the AD some ADs are not discounting on TT professional models.

I am negotiating with an AD in the Midwest (MO) and looking at 5-7% off MSRP. It is my first from this AD. I have been in the store several times in the past 8 - 9 months.

Look and see what they're going for BNIB here in the classifieds. That will give you a starting place with your negotiations with the AD.

I see no real reason to give you any discount on that model at all from an AD standpoint. It will sell at MSRP soon enough anyhow. You might get a 5-10% if you are lucky.

The days when 10% off ss, 15% off TT and 20-25% off PM are long, long gone.

What gets me on the TT is there is maybe an ounce of gold in the thing, so it's hard to justify $4,500 over the ss model for $1300 worth of gold.

Wouldn't have any qualms about paying retail for the ss, but I'd definitely need something off on the tt.

I bought mine last November with a single digit discount from my AD. Mine was the fourth Blusey they sold in 2018. They told me that all three previous purchasers had paid MSRP without haggling.

This month I ordered a TT Sky Dweller. No discount. I kept asking. They kept declining. I got the message.

What about paying $8500 for $3 worth of stainless steel?

It's harder for me to justify ANY stainless model....

Don't think all watch sellers on eBay are paying their typical 10% fees. The guys who move a lot of watches negotiate side deals with eBay. Some, as low as $100 a watch flat fee.

I bought my Bluesy last year from an AD I had never done business with in the suburbs of Chicago. We hit it off well and I was able to get him down to $13K even ($400 savings). I've given him more business since then and would probably now be able to get a little bit better discount, depending on the model of course.

From what I have seen, and experienced, no discounts at chains or mall locations. More likely to get discount at smaller, family owned ADs.

OP's best bet is to buy it online, it will save him from losing any money. (not the answer he wants to hear)

I would say its pretty tough to get any discount on that model... although TT isn't as popular, they will have no problems selling that one. Good Luck!

This is 100% correct. You can't just walk into an AD and expect a discount without doing your homework. Look in the TRF classifieds for BNIB to get your watermark and go in with your guns loaded......not blazing. You have to have leverage if you're going to have any success negotiating almost anything in life. Granted, that leverage may just be that you'll walk out, but having another purchase option holds more weight because they'll know you'll actually be spending money elsewhere and not just going home to cry in your pillow. That being said, I'd be shocked if you did get one at a discount because AD's are generally not having any difficulties selling at MSRP (depending on location).

Ever computed how much you pay for an ounce of SS when buying a Rolex ?

Just curious where you got your inaccurate figures
from ...

The TT Bluesy Sub C is the highest retaining value
TT Rolex just in case it slipped your mind or maybe
you were uninformed or mislead in some form or fashion.
