Does it make a difference how the DD is stored overnight?

Will resting the DD overnight in any particular way (or position) adjust the mechanism to assist in keeping better time? My DD is running a little fast. Would resting it in any particular position while I am sleeping make any difference?

It would depend on what you mean by keeping better time, positions do play a factor in time keeping. But in these different resting positions we are talking about a second or so out of 86400 in a day, and no mechanical watch will keep perfect time.

Yes, I do this with my watches. You will need to find out which position makes the watch run slow and put it in that position overnight when it's not on your wrist in order to cancel out the variation you're having during the day on your wrist. That way you don't have to adjust your watch. Have fun!

Face down and it literally hasn't gained or lost a second since I reset it to EST 3 months ago.

Really you will need to experiment with different positions and see what effects they have on timekeeping. Remember to record your results for reference and not to allow any large temperature variations.

I wear mine when I sleep; sometimes I sleep on my side and sometimes on my back. Do you think my watch knows the difference??

It certainly does make a difference how you lay it at night. Crown down slows it down the most, face up it gains the most for me. Sometimes I alternate it depending if it’s running slow or fast.

Since yours is running fast, I’d lay it on the crown and see if that helps. If it slows it down too much lay it on the 9 o’clock side. You have to play around until you find the sweet spot. Good luck.
