Should I have it regulated or not?

As most of you will know, through my previous thread, thanks to Brian and his relationship with his AD, I was able to buy a 5167A.

Whenever I buy a watch, I normally check the daily accuracy rate to check that it falls within the Brands (not necessary Patek Philippe) specification. If it does then I tend to forget it.

The 5167A is no exception, and i set it 5 days ago.

To date it has lost 28 seconds, which is about 5.4 seconds per day.

Now, I have had the pleasure of owning a number of Patek watches and so I know that this is not the norm.

In the "Old un" days, on seeing a thread like this, you would advise the owner of their new (not pre owned) watch to give it a couple of weeks for the movement to bed in as well as allowing it to become accustomed to how you wear it.

Is that still the case?

Or should I get it regulated?

Just to clarify I am not seeking perfection, we all recognise and appreciate that these are mechanical movements and some tolerance has to be allowed.
But I would like it to be nearer to what the company has set it at.

What method did you use to calculate its accuracy?

I would wear it normally for a couple more weeks and see if it is still running slow.

Wouldnt think it needs to settle in as I guess it would have been tested when leaving the factory to comply with PP Seal which is +3 / -2.

If it is an issue for you and you can have it regulated without much issue I would do it. The letting the watch settle in sounds good but for most modern brands and watches the watch are going to run as when they came out of the box.

Jon to answer your question.
I have worn it 24/7, in the first 3 days it had losed 15 seconds and in the next 2 days it had losed a further 12 seconds. Making it a total of 27 seconds.
I check the accuracy at around the same time each day from an atomic app on my phone.

My 5726 ran fairly slow at first, but after breaking it in i noticed it did speed up.

The accuracy doesn't bother anymore though. I'm always letting my watch die and i just quickly set it to the closest minute.

All err on the slow side

My experience is PP all run slow, its just a matter of how much. I have two 324 SC that lose about a minute a week. Not enough to worry about, but annoying. My experience is when I send them for service, incredibly they run just as they did when I sent them in. I think its in the watch's DNA. I wish they would err on the fast side. Better early than late.

I would certainly give it a couple months of continuous wear and see where it stands at that point. I would also try placing it in different positions overnight to see if you can even out the variance a bit.

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest but since it bothers you I would ask to have it regulated. You paid too much to be unhappy in any way!

Congrats again. I love that watch. It's on my reacquire/shouldn't have flipped list!

I'd say give it a couple of months to break in and see what happens then.

Watches dont spend months in Geneva at the factory getting "broken in". Before delivery they are tested to meet the requirement of +3/-2. If they dont meeit it they shouldnt be delivered. The PP Seal doesnt say "your watch should meet our exacting standards of +3/-2 within a couple of months"!!

Gents, many thanks for taking the time to reply back to my questions.
My train are thoughts are running along with what Karl said. Especially as it is a brand new watch.
I think that I will speak with Jamie tomorrow and see what he advises.

Incidentally, I believe that Rolex always err on the side of caution by regulating their watches to gain time. That way the wearer is never late for an appointment

If it takes them a while to regulate like it does a service, I'd pass. I wear in rotation so they spend a lot of time stopped anyways

+1
Mine are always rotated so 5 days is the absolute maximum before a swop occurs and the piece will need to be adjusted and restarted - accuracy is an irrelevance for me.

I spoke with the London Salon on Saturday.
As we know, they have a number of watchmakers located in the store. And they would be happy to regulate the watch, while I enjoyed a lovely cup of coffee. It would take about 20 minutes

I personally couldn't handle a watch running slow - +5 I can live with, losing time I couldn't.

Minus 38 seconds in a week.
I have emailed Jamie yesterday, who kindly replied back, even though he was on his day off.
We shall speak further today regarding the best course of action.

I never check my watch accuracy. It is fine with me if watch runs. I will get upset if my new watch is not working. It did happen to me many times. real upset me.

For me it's the exact opposite. Since I keep my watches running, either on the wrist or winder, I need to reset them occasionally for time gained or lost. I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but I just can't bring myself to set the watch hands backwards to adjust for time gained. If I've lost a minute or two I don't mind setting the hands forward though.
