PP 5990/1A Is it worth it?

Hi guys, need some help here. I first saw PP 5990/1A about a year ago. Immediately fell in love with it. But I ended up getting 2 other PP instead. 5712/1A and 5164/1A. Silly me, thought I will feel complete with these 2 watches.
What do u guys think bout this piece?
Is it too much to a SS? For that $ there are lots of choices out there.
Do you think it's weird to have 2 Travel Time watch?

The 5990 is a popular watch among Nautilus fans.

IMO the 5164A and the 5990/1A are different enough that you can have both in your collection.

There was a member that posted about this - it was prolific. Can't remember his handle tho.

I have the 5712a and the 5164r - both great timepieces. I also have a Daytona c - so the 5990 could consolidate most of functions nicely. However, one of the draws for me is the tropical strap in the 5164 which would be lost. Further, the 5712a is super thin with the micro rotor and I just love that about the timepiece + the blue dial is a beaut. The 5990 is an awesome piece but to me, it's thick and I prefer the blue dial to the gray.

Of course it up to you, but for me, I like the paring of the 5164 and the 5712. If there was a blue dial variant of the 5990, then that may be a different story...

I own a 5164, 5712 and 5990. I like them all but when i travel across major time zones, I usually wear the 5164. Very light and comfortable on the wrist and not flashy at all. Maybe on the next trip i will change up and go with the 5990. I almost considered selling my 5712 but then yesterday I wore it for the first time in a while and realized how much i really do like it.

I think my 5164 is the perfect travel companion. That said, I'd really be tempted if they release a steel 5990 with blue dial, even if it meant doubling down on the travel time function

I like the two you have now. If you want a chrono how about the 5980R or 1R for some RG.

I think the 5990 is a great watch and would go pretty well with your other watches - you don't have a chrono, and I think the 5164 is a more practical travel watch. Regarding the price and alternatives - it's my favourite watch at that price point, along with the 5524.

I've been hearing a lot of people saying that they hope to see a blue dial on 5990. Do you all think it's possible for Patek to release 2 dial colors on the same SS case material? I'm not too sure whether PP will do so. Maybe WG with blue dial.

I've lived with mine for six weeks now. The Chrono function is great for cooking and the second hand is usually left running. This allows you to admire the full face at different times. Sunday afternoon and I'm happy to wash the car with it on! It does accumulate little scratches perhaps more easily than my Rolex/IWCs so I can see why some would prefer it just for workwear. The bracelet is supremely comfortable once I've got it sized correctly with the extra half link.....

Only minor criticism-would have preferred a date window for legibility but appreciate the dial symmetry. This is not a quick glance watch for date! Indeed you will find yourself looking at it more often than you need to!

If you do a search on a recent thread about the discontinued 5980/1A, there is a discussion about the blue, black and white dial versions of the 5980/1A and which color dial people liked better. That is why many forum members are hoping that Patek will release a blue dial version of the 5990/1A soon.

Although we don't know what color variations Patek has in mind for future releases, we can certainly wait in anticipation. The 5726 Annual Calendar has not seen a blue dial either and that reference has been around longer than the 5990.

If any of you get tired of your 5990 I would gladly trade a NIB 5711/1r and maybe a few bones extra :)

5990 and 5164 are two completely different watches. In the UK 5990 is highly sought after with waiting lists and 5164 is readily available.
