Most suited watch for active duty military?
I think submariner (date or no date) because of rugged design, brushed case and Glidelock.
IMO, nothing with PCLs or jubilee would look right in uniform. What say you? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I was in the Royal Engineers, you had one or two divers that wore Subs but had to be as dark as possible as they don't allow you to wear anything with too much of a shine. Some specialists wore watches such as the CWC.

Most suited watch for active duty military?
I think EX II has better movement with Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex shock absorbers making it better than Submariner in this case.

"Active Duty" is a pretty wide criteria.

No question about it a G-Shock. I own one through six years of working in an engine room in the Navy. It lasted quite well. Countless hours of rebuilding machinery. So wear a G-Shock during working hours. Now after working hours strap on at submariner.

Whatever watch accomplishes the needs of the wearer, while costing no more than they can afford to lose and replace (G-Shock gets my vote). The last thought on any service person’s mind should be ‘I hope I don’t smash my $10,000 watch on patrol today’.

Expected to be deployed for active combat? I would go garmin tactix delta. Embacy work or other non combat where one doesn't have to be stealthy, I would grab my sub.

Well can assure when Rolex was used as real tools years ago by the military world wide, they did not use parachrom or paraflex shock stystems which in the real world are just made up words. And would doubt in the real world any better than the Kiff or Nivarox hairspring that were used by Rolex and most of the Swiss watch industry for decades.

I flew AC-130U for the military and do contract work now in random crazy places, my Sub was/is absolutely perfect for anything I threw at it.

USAA offers great coverage for personal property...mechanical watches are great for the military, or anyone working in an office where you are restricted from “smart” watches, phones, etc.
I think the GMT Master has long been a military staple, as the red/blue looked great with a uniform (which is not always the case with a business suit). From the modern line, I think the Submariner or Explorer II Black Dial would be great options that are relatively attainable. The Sub is just such a classic. The Explorer II (like the GMT Master) has the GMT hand, which is very useful for the military — whether tracking home time, DC time, ATO Zulu time, etc. As another poster mentioned, Sinn watches go great with the uniform and are very rugged. For the field, G-shock is always the best option. |

When in the field, I used a marathon navigator personally. It was issued and worked fine. I worked for the military as a contractor for a decade or so, and while not in combat, I was in field conditions all the time on exercise and simulated combat. The marathon held up great. |

The watch matches the mission. In active hands on situations a G-Shock in others, a Submariner.

When I was a radio operator in the field, I used a Casio Pathfinder. I needed to sight in antennas to satellites and needed a compass. I used to have a Suunto but it kept resetting when I was in freezing temps.

I used a g-shock. It did multiple tours in Iraq and Helmand and is still going. Before that a cwc W10.
I wouldn’t wear anything stainless unless behind a desk. The damage it could do to me, or be done to it doing anything active wasn’t worth it. I learnt the hard way when a watch got snagged and it was a toss up between the bracelet and my wrist as to what gave way first. |
