<<< Seeing it on someone else >>>

Morning all,

Last night I was out with a good friend of mine ... enjoying a few cocktails and having dinner at our favourite bar.

We like to sit at the bar, more lively conversation there. Anyway ... sitting a few people down from us was a fellow wearing a DSSD. I didn’t say anything although I was tempted to go over and tell him how awesome it looked on him.

Then I got to thinking ... what a damn fine looking watch, why did I leT my Dblue go

Any of my fellow WIS ever have a moment like this?

Hopefully it moved out for another watch. Good news, I believe, is this watch is replaceable within a reasonable time.

Yes

I sold this

As part of a package deal to get this

I still love the Breitling every time I see my friend wearing it and I am glad he has it. Then I remember what I did to get my 5711.

Brian - which D-Blue did you sell? 126660 or 116660?

Other Brian - You came out ahead, especially with the 5711 white dial being discontinued.

Lots of Brians in this thread already. The day is early.

The 116660. The first and only Rolex purchase I've ever made on a spur of the moment.

I still remember when I saw this one and thinking ... damn that's a cool watch gotta have it

Nothing I regret moving out as it meant something I desired more moving in! Similar to your 5711 situation Brian...don't look back!

But it is funny how much more you notice the brands+models you used to wear, or currently wear, on somebody else. just like cars that you drive, once you own one you see them everywhere. I sold my IWG RG Portugueser, now I see it everywhere! Same with my reverso (as in my icon but now sold), and now I see them all over.
But no regrets!!

Well that was the goal. I do not care about what is discontinued, I wanted to upgrade my collection while reducing pieces so I accomplished my goal. Life is full of choices.

Ha, I know. You're not in it for the investment. That's why it's funny.

Well Erik, I said I'd never go back ... but last night definitely got me thinking.

Lucky for me the AD isn't too close (and probably doesn't have one)

Some watches look best on other people. A friend has a blue milgauss and it looks amazing on his wrist. When I try one on it doesn’t look nearly as nice....which saved me 8100 bucks :-)

my buddy and i had this conversation the other week.

when you own and wear a watch often, it’s easy to get used to it. then i don’t wear it for a while (currently thinking about either my SD43 or my 116710BLNR) and i see it on someone else’s wrist and i think “DANG that’s a great looking watch.”

While I think the Dblue it’s probably Rolexes best looking watch IMHO I can tell you why I let mine go and why most people probably let their’s go. The reason is it looks ridiculously and hideously large on about 95% of people. Now if you can get over that and just concentrate on how much you love looking at it then you would be a person that could keep it and continue to wear it. I couldn’t.

No, but I recently saw someone wearing a DSSD and agreed it looked great on him. I know that it would not suit me well so there was no temptation, only appreciation.

It's like going to a bar and seeing an old girl friend that dumped you out with someone else.

Your buddy was probably saying to you, "dude, why'd you get so quiet".........no I'm fine.......Just tired I guess. As your eyes stalk her around the room. Your heart breaking......now she's laughing with the guy, bitch...........what did I do wrong....Oh look the Leafs scored.....who cares.....it's just a game......Marner got a hat trick......as you look over at her again.......reminiscing about the game you took her to......and she laughed with you too.......and drank a lot of beer and puked in the parking lot.....man those were good times......damn the Leafs just let in 2 goals in 14 seconds........ WHAt? sure I'll have one more......wanna get some chips and gravy, I'm starving.....stupid Leafs.......what did I do wrong,I thought we were great together...???????

Should I go over and say hi. Nah, I'll just look desperate......she's laughing again.....don't fling your hair back......ahh man.....I think she lost a few pounds too........6-4 Leafs dropped another one.....Mathews looked pretty good, I hate Boston........I'm going to the can....don't eat all the chips...."hey, isn't that your old girl friend over there?" .......SHUT UP.... we only went out a couple of times......

To be honest Brett, that feeling was always in the back of my mind.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say ridiculously large, it is definitely a large watch and I was always a bit consciously aware of that.

I proceeded t buy the SD43 thinking it would be somewhere between the DSSD and Submariner (which it is), but honestly even it feel awkwardly large at times.

It’s definitely a love hate relationship, more love for how it looks on others perhaps

Oh my goodness, you don’t know how this hits home ... this has happened to me as well (not last night) but it HAS happened.

You’ve managed to capture it perfectly my friend. I guess I just need to stop going out
