What is the biggest surprise from new releases?

That the Daytona has the same bezel look now as a Timex Chronograph Datetona.

An exhibition caseback on a Rolex is an abomination which should be punishable by death.

The display back was a huge surprise. Good on them for pulling that one on us.
The other is the colorful OP and Puzzle Prezis. We knew there'd be color, but not like this. Love it. |

I think the clear caseback is definitely a surprise on the new Daytona, and a welcome one at that.
Also, the new release 1908 sports the same clear case back and solid gold rotor, and overall is a really nice looking dress watch. It follows in the previous Cellini’s as being a daily dress watch by not being overly thin and too delicate. I really like it. I’m pleased about the new GMT’s as well, particularly the TT YG variant. One other surprise I’ve read about but can’t find much more info on it is the DD puzzle dial? If it exists then that’s got to be the most surprising watch of the lot. |

The biggest question in my mind is if all the daytona movements are now finished to the same level we see on the PT Daytona. That would be a big step up imho. Cotes de geneve cert, with the same finishing on all would be really really cool

I am surprised they Daytona case and lugs are now the same dimension as the PM offerings. I wonder if this will allow them to scale production of this watch more, even though as we know different machines are used for different metals. Gold cases uses to be beefier with platinum taking the top spot.

Clear case back - this sets Rolex in a fundamentally different direction with new watch releases over the coming years.

I wonder if Rolex realizes their new puzzle style resembles the "Autism Awareness" logo?

To me the biggest surprise is that Rolex admitted that discontinuing the 39mm Explorer was a bad call. If my memory serves me this is the first time that a basically identical watch is reissued after such a short time.

I add nothing by saying this but, yeah, “puzzle piece” DD and display caseback with a slight nod to the former. We needed Supercarita or Henrimontgomery to predict the “puzzle piece” or the “bubbles”!
I was initially wondering why cut-out rotor… Then I saw that the Pt has a display caseback and it all made sense. I’m still unhappy that they didn’t go with a solid caseback. Haha. |

The 1908. I'm actually very interested in this one. The only new offering that I will most likely buy would be the Explorer 40. It would go well with my favorite Rolex's, The 41 DJ and OP.

Rolex has had eccentric dial designs before. Gotta be the clear back. That’s a fundamental shift from decades of oyster case design.
