Call me Paul...IWC clock content

Ok, maybe not as vintage as Paul's clocks.

Picked this guy up off the large auction site at a great price and this thing is beautiful in hand. Will sit perfectly next to my work screen...once it's actually working.

Sending it into my watchmaker and hoping he can give it a nice polish as well, though it really isn't that bad.

Super cool Jesse! Now you just gotta make sure the boys don’t turn it into a ball for playing catch lol. Great find! Would love to see pics once it’s serviced and polished

Jessie, a guy in my club has that exact one, he brought it in to gloat a couple meetings ago. I must admit, I am jealous. Congrats!

Thanks Paul! I think I'm going to have Tom at D's do the service.

I saw one on the Bay and it had the description below - if true, maybe just a new battery? Perhaps behind the backplate having 3 screws…

“IWC Schaffhausen Portugieser 75 Year Anniversary Table Clock - Table Clock Portugieser # IWIWA 70934
I have never seen another one of these before so i know this is pretty rare and pretty special. This clock was produced to celebrate the 75 year anniversary of the original IWC Portugieser model per the stamped caseback.

This desk clock is 3 pieces; the front glass 1/2 sphere, the clock part (which is basically just a flat disc that holds the clock and face and looks like a pocket watch without a crystal) and the back of the clock which is another 1/2 sphere with a flat spot where the clock rests on a table.

This clock is gorgeous, the polished burlwood ring around the clock (which is where the 2 pieces meet and screw together) gives this clock a hand-made artisan heirloom quality, look and feel. I don't believe this clock was ever made available for retail purchase, rather it was presented as a special gift to VIP customers and Ambassadors of the IWC Brand.

This clock is a reproduction of an original antique glass ball clock which were popular in the early 1900's because they served multi purposes as paper weight, practical clock and object d'art.

This item is brand new, never used or displayed and in original IWC packaging as pictured. It has never spent any considerable time outside of its protective box set.

For the uninitiated, this is a Ball-style desk or table clock. There is a flat spot in the back of the case so that the clock sits flat on a desk or shelf. The ball is made up of 2 pieces which unscrew from one another. One side is the base and the other is the clock with the battery operated movement and the face of the clock which is encased in what is essentially the middle of the glass ball. When screwed together they form a perfect ball clock with the flat spot on the back always lining up perfectly so the clock sits up straight. And the clock is viewable through the glass ball.

Comes in original IWC packaging including Outer Sleeve with sticker (Table Clock Portugieser # IWIWA 70934), inner presentation box is generously padded and foam laser but to protect and store the clock
Sits on Desk at Slight Angle showing face of Clock

Domed Glass and rich burlwood wood inlay gives unique and luxurious appearance

When the back side is removed, 75th engraving is shown (see photos)
The crown is engraved with the precious "Probus Scafusia"
Swiss Made (just like the watches)
About 65mm in Diameter
Quartz (battery operated) movement with gold-toned indices and hands - time and date indications

Thank you for viewing my auction.

That is so cool Jesse CONGRATULATIONS

I’ve been eyeing the Panerai version of something similar, but I can’t get past the asking price

Congrats! Looks like Richemont is using the same 'casing' for the IWC as they do for the Panerai 'table clocks'. As an fyi, Panerai (~$3k) version uses their 8-day manual wind mechanical movement. Congrats on the IWC pickup, these desk clocks have a very solid casing and look great!

Beautiful clock! Hopefully just a quick battery swap and you're back on your feet!

What a steal regardless, lucky score!

But if you really want a travel/table clock that truely is a step above the rest.

There's only one "Hodinkee" travel clock for a mere $5,900

At this point i'd love one as a 'joke', very, VERY rare.

Thanks gents - it blew me away in person!

I do believe (hope) it is just a battery issue, though I wish it had the movement of the Panerai table clock.

That Panerai clock is the coolest and I've wanted one since they were first introduced. But like you Brian, I just can't get past that price.

Funny how we will spend x times amount that for something so similar, yet scoff at the "cheaper", even more beautiful version because we can't wear it!

Good find, I like it.

The real question is this: Is it safe to rest on a table in Mexico?

Is it safe - table clock edition. I love it!
