Goes both ways honestly.

I think the new one is nice but I really don’t like that ring around the bezel. Also, it looks (from the pictures) more dressy, I like the sporty look better personally. Hopefully all those that didn’t get a Daytona last time, get the call this time.

There have been many iterations of Daytonas and my understanding is that the older ones have held their value reasonably well despite that. Newer doesn't always mean better....for example a C2 Corvette is a much better looking car than a C3 which was better looking by far than a C4 which replaced it so each iteration was uglier and less in demand now than it's predecessor. For me the new Sub is a huge improvement over the previous model and even over the 5 series (I have both a 5 series and a new 41mm sub). The value of a used 5 series sub however did not drop with the release of the new 41mm sub....it went up if anything. I have 2 Daytonas.....and I don't care what the value is now because I am not selling them. To my eye the new Daytona looks cheesy compared to the previous one and the metal ring around the bezel will ding and scratch much easier than will the ceramic without the ring. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder and others will disagree...that doesn't mean I am defensive because I'm "protecting my investment". I got my 500LN from the AD for 13+K ....list and my white gold Daytona for significantly LESS than retail years ago. So no matter what my investment is going to be just fine. But to my eye the new Daytona is a fail and I'm glad I have the ones I have. Unlike the new Sub which I thought they hit out of the park I think the new Daytona is a foul ball...just another strike in the count. I will not be looking to acquire one from my dealer because I prefer the ones I have. I'm sure Rolex will come out with something new I want. Not this year though.

Of course this from people selling the old one lol!!!
I don't own a Daytona, I'm not on the waiting list for one either, but I do prefer the outgoing stainless models. To my taste there's too much negative space on the new ones with the thinner markers and thinner subdial rings. I do love the meal ring around the bezel on the new ones, I think its a nice touch, and I absolutely love the black dial yellow gold variant with the red ring on the perimeter on this new gen!

They’re very similar yet also very different.

If you like a bulkier watch and more shine, the new SS version likely will appeal more

If you like a subtler and sleeker version, the prior version will likely appeal more.

Both are great watches. Personal taste will dictate ones preference here.

At least we can talk about watch features and design again rather than market prices. :-)

I like the idea of having discontinued models....no more will be made. Plus I buy what I like anyway.

Who cares, I don’t think if you own a 11650LN you would be too upset about this. Good luck getting that 12, if you didn’t manage the 11 I wouldn’t hold my breath. Same watch with some minor changes. Hardly worth upgrading.

I wonder how many will sell their current 116500 for current market value and buy the new version gray for 20-30k more I'm guessing. Crazy.

This thread is classic. When the 500 replaced the 520, conventional wisdom was that the 520 value would tank. Not so much….. they are still more than double retail and not easy to source a clean full set. IMHO same will be true for the 11 series. No need to jump out the window.

I like the new Daytona. I have always thought the ceramic bezel looked tacky but could not figure why. Today I realized it was missing a metal ring a round it. Looks much more "polished" ;) to me.

I bought my 116500 white dial in 2018/2019 from my local AD, if they offer me a trade for the new one i would gladly accept it. The new daytona 126500 is more luxurious with the new subdial and the metal ring on the edge of the bezel, also the case to me looks better proportions.

Half of the people saying the new daytona is horrible is because they own the old one, new one looks better no doubt about that.

Just my opinion, no hate

I’ve been away a while haven’t really looked at watches in a few. Randomly today i look and bam, new Daytona! I like it, looking forward to getting it. But, i can see why people will freak. They missed their window to get top dollar for their previous Daytona.

Their uh hmm answer … “I’m not sure what we are going to do with those.”

Uhh hmm … just as we suspected … a safe “full” of them, just waiting for someone to come in and buy some diamond earrings !!!

Everyone was asking for symmetrical lugs … they got them … now they don’t like them.

I think this is like a car remodel … at first you don’t like the new one as much as the old one … then after you’ve seen 10 to 15 of them, you like the new one better than the old one.

Not a big change, really, to me. From 3 feet away no one is going to be able to tell the difference, even us. Side by side, HD, closeup photos, yes … a little different.

I would be happy to own either … but I’m not selling my 116500 to get the 126500 …

which was not the case with the 11 Series Submariner vs. the 12 Series Submariner … the day I got my 12 … the 11 was gone.

Sounds exactly like the same conversation I had today. I told my S A “I’ll gladly take one of those old left over 500’s or 505’s nobody wants from the back”

I got an lol emoji and we will see.

Agreed. It gives me the same feeling of relief that I had when Porsche went back to round headlights with the 997. It just looks “right” again.

I don't understand the arrow thrown at newer watches. If you love the model you have then why concern yourself with a new version. I have the 116519, 116500, 116523 and 116506 and love them. The new version reeks of the 6263 version. I love the new ones. I had sold my panda to add the 116506 but my AD was working on getting me the panda again. I would take either version. I am glad to see that my Platona with all ice dial and baguettes was discontinued and makes mine unique.

This is how it should be, in my opinion.

We don't need DRASTIC changes every year because of Basel, W&W, whatever iteration you want to call it.

Think about how little has changed with the Sub or GMT over the years, from the 1675 to the 16710 to the 126710. To the public, they're all the same watch. I love that the heritage is there and we only see slight changes that only matter to us watch nerds.

Hard indeed…been going back and forth thinking about what to do….though I feel it’s best to wait for a different design since I already own the black one.

I have both the white and black 500 that I got from my AD in the last 18 months. I like both the old and new but what drew me to these was the case fit on my wrist.
I have no problem appreciating the new, but I do like my current pieces as well.
Full disclosure though-I had an 11 series Sub date and didn’t think much of the 12 until I tried it on. I was fortunate in that my AD simply swapped them for me…
