No(t much) love for the 116710LN?
Hi guys
Apologies if this has been discussed before but I noticed that the 116710LN is the black sheep amongst SS sports Rolex models (pun very much intended). Aside from the colorful alternatives and the long production run before discontinuation, why is this amazing piece so often overlooked as a decent contestant? It truly puzzles me. Your views are, as always, highly appreciated. Cheers V. |

Great watch. Looks like the sub and costs a lot more.

It was my first professional Rolex. to be honest great piece, only thing I do not like are polished center links, which are very easy to scratch.... I don't understand why people do not like it... it is the same of a blnr, except of a piece of blue ceramic... ideal for a business meeting since it does stand out too much!

Maybe it needs a nickname.

No nickname.
If the LN had come out after the BLNR it would have been another impossible to get variant.

Made many mistakes in my life and selling my LN is near the top of the list. I see new (very few) as well as used ones listed with grey dealers, am sorely tempted, but just can't make myself pay the premiums asked. I bought mine new from a grey in 2014 for about $7,300. I see a new one listed today for almost $15,000.

Because it looked similar to many other Rolex variants, Sub, Sub Date, SeaDweller....
It had stiff competition and at the time it was released people bought watches based on needs. You wanted a GMT get the GMT 2c LN, don't need a second time zone you got a diver. Then the BLNR came on the scene, back seat city. I remember you could buy it(LN) bnib around 2017 for $7k. Today it's cancelled and fomo has kicked in with a side of hype beasting, I personally think it's an awesome watch, but I prefer the alternatives more, ie the BLNR or BLRO, and I've owned all three. |

It is my favorite new GMT. Will be looking for one next year. The color is just perfect and it looks classy.

Present time didn't determine the popularity. I'm talking about sticker prices when they were both in the AD case and why one is generally not as popular as other sport watches.

Msrp was $400 more for the GMT2 than the sub, or 4.7%. I would hardly call that “a lot more. $8550 vs $8950. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

It was my first Rolex, and I think the most versatile model they've made over the past 20 years.

This was my first Rolex too, I also revisited the model for another two year period. However I eventually got into more colour and wore it less and less. I’m on a list for a BLRO, variety is the spice of life!

Great watch, had one briefly but sold it as thought too similar to my 16610. Maybe again one day!

Probably I'll get one right tomorrow. Iconic look very similar to the Sub but with another, more specific identity. No colour to be misunderstood as shouting "Rolex", fair gray prices..

Superb watch in my opinion. I have the LN and the BLNR and love both, but the LN is a really great understated watch to wear in a business setting and (stating the obvious) particularly useful if you want to keep track of a second time zone at a glance. I don’t understand the “too close to a Sub” comments as they are different watches and both are excellent.

I remember one of my local AD called about this piece but Im after the BLNR so I pass. But this piece is actually nice with that hint of green gmt hand. Not enough hype around it and it looks like a sub probably. This is actually good so its easy for other people who really likes it to acquire it without paying too much becauseof the hype.

Imo it's the nicest 40mm watch they've made. Owned it twice myself, but ultimately found it a bit too small.

There’s actually a big following for the LN, however, it seems the mass majority lusts after the colored variants

To me, it’s the lack of night/day colors (not that I actually use it all the time) but I feel the watch is a purer form of GMT with two colors representing the AM/PM, also it could just be the trend and almost every other company copies the same scheme in different colors.
To be fair, I have the BLNR and it looks black from a distance, and can only see the blue up close, which is why I think the Pepsi is more popular as a GMT. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
