for my first Panerai watch ?
I am considering to buy one of two entry level Panerai Base Logo models; the Luminor 1086 or the Radiomir 753. I've not yet been to a Panerai dealer to try on watches, but am posing the question here to learn opinions towards which of these two (or other model) would be most suitable as my first Panerai watch.
Thanks in advance for any helpful replies. |

When I think about a Panerai watch, there are several questions I ask myself.
1. Size- mostly depends on wrist size and what you feel comfortable with. Seems like you're happy with 44mm at least- which is good as that will keep your options more open. 2. Sandwich dial vs Sausage dial. Makes a big difference to me and what I like. 3. Luminor vs Radiomir. vs Submersible. There is no wrong answer. Which design appeals to you more? Does the crown guard look good to you? Or does the elegant Radiomir look better? 4. If Luminor, which case shape? The Bettarini or the 1950 caase- they look significantly different. If Radiomir, again, which case shape? 1940? Wire lugs or solid lugs? 5. You have now narrowed it down and can start to look at the models and can start to choose between materials/subseconds/case back/water resistance. Happy hunting. |

I personally went with the 312 when they were still around as my first. |

Lovely watch. I currently have a 1392. To me, I wanted a 42mm 1950 case with a sandwich dial and open caseback! And that’s how I ended here! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The only advice is to go and try them on. You may be surprised.

I decided for 914 because of: 44mm, sandwich, crown guard (luminor), bettarini case, 300m WR and manual wind (plus no date or seconds). Less is more with Panerai in my book. Edit: and of course, slightly used for 20-30% off of MSRP as these do not hold value wich is good if you are looking into ownership and not investing. :D Got mine 1 yr old, near mint condition per naked eye and with 7 years warranty left for 25% less then MSRP. |

Go to your dealer and try a bunch on. You’ll be surprised at how they wear in all sizes and configurations
