The 50 Greatest TV and Movie Detectives...
This should give us something to chew on.....
Just watched Knives Out again last night for maybe the 5th time. Loved Columbo, Rockford, Magnum, and some of the other classics here...in fact most of these are pretty good. Chinatown and Maltese Falcon, Fargo, Pink Panthers were near the top of my list as well. https://ew.com/tv/greatest-tv-movie-...b-c732d869bcbe

Greatest on TV. Detective Vic Mackey. Arguably not so great of a human being, but what a terrific character

The Long Goodbye has an ending with a twist you wouldn't expect. First class performance from Elliot Gould

Meh... what a funny "best" detective list which misses Sherlock Holmes(!), and in which the "creators" forgot about the David Suchet played Poirot. In this circumstances I also missed James Bond from the list...

I don't think they covered Brit TV/movies all that well unless they showed up on PBS in the US.
Morse was a classic as was Midsomer for 24 seasons. One of my favorites is Brokenwood from New Zealand. (Britbox)

If memory serves me right: Foyle’s War, Inspector Morse and Inspector Lynley all aired on PBS. Terrible omissions! But at least there is no Miss Marple on the list, she irritated me so much lol

I watch mostly Prime with Britbox, Acorn, AMCplus, PBS/Masterpiece, MHzChoice and foreign stuff for the last few years, a lot of British, French, German, Aussie and NZ, as well as the dark stuff from Scandinavian countries like multiple versions of Beck and Wallander. So many great detective shows. If anybody is interested I could list a bunch of them.
