This may help from the Rolex video.

Meh,…Value will go up regardless what my opinion is but then again I am a long term Rolex player and not a seller and was here wearing the brand long before the new Rolex investment vampires showed any interest into the brand.

The renders are terrible

This is what we need to base our opinion on

I’m waiting to see them in person but this picture highlights why I’m not a fan of the new case design. If in fact the side case is now flat, like the sub & gmt, then . I much prefer the curvy nature of the old model.

That is quite a big departure from the Daytona case. It looks more like a block you would find on the tudor chronos.

I wouldn't go as far as to say its "butchered" but I am in the camp of preferring the original.

The 11 series had subtle curves and flows. This 12 series Daytona looks like what the new ceramic subs were when they launched which people only talked about (being "fat lug" and blocky") when they blew up the sub to 41mm and thinned the lugs.

Looking at the entire big picture for the SS Daytona line 11 and 12 for a new enthusiast that wants one.

Not that a AD is calling anyone for a SS Daytona without serious spending.

Days of ever getting the call for a 11 Series Daytona are ending. Days and potential calls for the new 12 series Daytona are at least ahead of you for the next few years but is now a new uphill marathon of new interest. It went from bad to worse for the 12 series and bad to never for the 11 series.

So as much as the passion for the Daytona may be for either model, it may not matter for the average enthusiast.

For me the biggest turn off’s still remain: unbalanced dial layout, and screw down pushers.

Jury is out, but I’d say I slightly prefer the new version over the old YMMV
100% agree. I’ll add that legibility doesn’t seem to have improved with the new one from the renderings.
Still Speedmaster > Daytona for me.

IMHO, the new case is an improvement. It’s more masculine looking to my eye, YMMV.

The only thing I would like to see is chamfers ~ ala ~ YM and DS Challenge. I truly hope they bring them back to the rest of the professional references.

This has got to be the biggest Rolex fail I can possibly think of. Rolex took a perfect organic design and purposely ruined every aspect of the iconic Daytona. It’s like they are trying to showcase how much better the 11 series Daytona is/was with a “New Coke” exercise in marketing.

Epic fail with butchering the Daytona line. I am in disbelief Rolex could make so many design screw-ups their most perfect watch.

Oh man that metal edge around the bezel is a huge issue for collecting dings and wear marks. IMO….it adds nothing and becomes a liability.
The biggest “fail” is the beautiful organic case lines have been butchered into a now blocky supercase look? ??
A blocky Daytona?

The 11 series Daytona has now become incredibly special and “THE” SS Daytona.
Sounding very very desperate to increase your value haha

Or a Daytona owner enthusiast that actually knows what they like in design and movements. I am more of a technical owner and movement super freak

FYI:
That new “value” and “investment” mentality concerned owner that has cast an eye toward the Rolex brand happened 3 decades after I was wearing the brand.

That is a terrible render. not a real watch. The DD40 case looks totally different too on the new website.

Have a look at this live image of the PT case. look at the curve on the case at the bottom if the picture. Its the same as the existing curved PM case

I like the new Daytona, heck I would take any SS Daytona that Rolex offered me, but the more I see the new ones I do see what you are saying. The 11 Daytona was really unique, looks a bit more special from the Subs and GMTs. The new Daytonas look more similar to the other sports models now for some reason. Will have to get used to seeing the ceramic bezel with the SS ring around it.

I think you'll be disappointed Brian The real pictures rather than the website renders show a very similar case to the 11 series PM symmetrical case

Based on the photos, the SS and YG case (for bracelet) are now using the PM style case that is symmetrical. So case size is now likely 39.5mm on SS and YG.

Agreed on the lugs and bracelet end links for PM. This was much needed.

I prefer the 11 but I think most people will prefer the 12. A lot of people complained about the dainty appearance of the 11. But I like curves on a watch, much like women, which is why I prefer DJ's, OP's, and Explorers.

great update, less feminine that the previous version, more vintage with the bezel surround. 100% better.

Absolutely. This was long overdue. The old SS was very weird - even the AD SA wouldn't believe it!

Wow....really think the ring around the bezel looks cheesy. Reminds me of pinstripes on a luxury car.....I think the ceramic bezel without the outline is much better looking. I have a a 5 digit sub and when the new Sub came out I bought the same watch I already had updated because I think it's a visual and functional upgrade. Worth the money to do that and I'll give my old one to one of my sons. But this is NOT a visual or functional upgrade and I'd definitely keep what I have and prefer it.

I happen to be wearing my Daytona today so…. Took the picture from Monochrome watches for the new one. Some things I like better than the old one but that silver rim around the bezel is a no go for me personally.

My opinion, since they went back to thinner indices on the dial like the Zenith era, they too should have went back to the brushed lugs and brush the bracelet to make it a true sports model like the Submariner. And while they're at it, go to 42mm so they can totally ruin everything instead of just partially.

I think I'm surprised to see so many people who aren't happy. Its different yea but some changes have to happen, no? And over time change is good, isn't it? LoL the design team has to have something to work on.

Variety is the spice of life.
