Icon3 Today was a good day. 126570 in hand.

Hello all!

I joined this forum 5 months ago after having registered interest with my local AD regarding the 226570 Explorer II. When I began learning about the Rolex brand via this forum, I was dead-set on waiting it out and put the idea of paying more than retail out of my head. And the latest model was my only interest.

Fast forward five months of reading and absorbing all I could, I found myself opening up to other ideas.

The whole 32xx discussion both fascinated and worried me. I was impressed by the expertise and knowledge on display here. I’m looking for a daily driver watch, and I wouldn’t be happy if the accuracy began dropping off below that of my inexpensive Marathon GSAR. Given this concern, I decided to look for a 216570 with the 3187 movement. Despite some cool upgrades available in the 226570, I decided the 32xx wasn’t for me.

Then I opened up to a non-AD purchase, and realized the premium isn’t an issue. The longer I would have waited for the AD, the retail price would go up, but my “watch money” also grows. And when/if the AD ever delivered, would Rolex have solved the 32xx root cause by then? Perhaps. Perhaps not.

So I made the drive to Orlando this morning, and came home with an unworn condition 216570, dated 2020. I’m thrilled to have it and start enjoying it immediately, as opposed to a “who knows how long” wait for a “who knows how healthy” engine.

Happy camper here. And it’s been an exciting six months during which my daughter got married, and my son and his wife had our first grandchild. These events now marked by a watch I can pass to my son when I “move on”

Thanks for reading, and more importantly, thanks for helping to inform my decision. Life is short- buy the watch!

Thanks all. As the late great James Brown said “I feel good!”

You know, I also feel much smarter after hanging around here a few months. When I was at the shop yesterday, I was throwing around reference numbers faster than the sales associate could write them down. When we were getting down to brass tacks, I started peppering him with words like “escapement”, “amplitude”, “tribology”. When I hit him with “isochronism”, his eyes rolled back, so I knew I needed to pull back a bit.

But seriously, thanks all for the education.
