Advise Needed from TRF Friends AP VS Patek

So I have has an itch lately for a Patek, and while I know Patek is considered as good as it gets in the world of watches.

I just wanted to see what some of the members here thought about a comparison. I have a new style AP rose gold offshore 44mm, I was thinking of trading it for a Patek nautilus chronograph.

Due to the price Decrease, My AP is now less than the Patek Model I'm interested in.

AP MSRP is now 46k while the patek is around 51k and stainless steel no less..

Patek is a clean chrono dial with nice fly back button on the side. Bracelet looks a little plain. But then again, this is a patek and patek is forever. or so their advertisement's say lol.

Should I sell off the AP and purchase the patek and owe a few grand more ontop?

What does everyone thing about that? This would be my first patek. While it is way more subtle than the AP, It has really started to stick with me the more I see it.

any advise would be great.

The PP is no doubt a grail watch but I just don't see paying 51K for a SS watch even though its a PP. IMHO keep the AP RG & save up for the PP if you MUST have it. My .02 cents.

5980 is a monster of a watch. You should consider looking under the hood. Stunning piece.

I would do it in a heart beat. I love the classic AP ROs these new ROOs that are huge with the funky designs and colors are not my cup of tea. I cannot seem them aging well. In 10 years the Patek will still look as modern as ever, the jury is still out on the AP. While 50K for a steel watch is insane, there is really only a very small amount of gold on the AP so that argument is moot IMO.

I was struggling between these two a couple of weeks ago, but I had made up my mind going for the 44mm RG.

If it was 5980R, I would pick the Patek, but just not the 5980/1A.

again, this is just personal preference....

Don't trade rose gold to SS. Unless you trade your rosé gold to Patek rose gold 5980R.
Btw let me know if you want to sell your 44mm RG.

it is the best one in the nautilus range...well maybe after 5711 imho
and yes the CH 28-520C movement is just stunning

Lets not forget - the Offshore design has been around 20 years now...and whilst the majority of Patek's are relatively timeless...I would never describe them as 'modern'.

I can understand why most people would prefer the PP visually - it is far more conservative. But if you are more of an extravert then why not go for the AP?

both are nice, but, for me, i would make the trade in a heartbeat. the size and pushers of the AP are just too much for me. so, in that sense, the PP looks more "killer" to me.

as for RG vs SS, another way to look at it is, you are trading a RG case and rubber strap for the pinnacle of SS.

good luck with the choice.

2 of my favorite offerings from these brands.
In this case I've gotta say 5980.
It's a personal grail of mine that I hope to add when the time is right.
I'm sure you've tried on the PP, as it will wear MUCH differently that the RG.
Classic, elegant, timeless.

They are very different watches but equally nice. Very hard to decide if it is me. But I am leaning a bit more to the AP. The Nautilus seems a bit overpriced for this model.

Even though it's a very nice ap, I would go for the Patek. But rather the RG version.

My thoughts exactly! All in all I prefer the Patek to the AP for various reasons (especially the size and the original way of displaying the chronograph's subdials on the PP) but I would much prefer the rose gold version, I think it looks much nicer.
