I attended a Tudor pre launch event a few years ago. They had all the new models, but they were non working samples. It does not surprise me that Rolex has them too.

Better in the case for folks to see then locked up in the safe in the back.

I've seen this as well a few weeks back in SG in all ADs.
Oddly in the AD at Raffles they also had a YM2 in there, the lady politely said they are not for sale. Just in that moment a young many with skinny wrist was cheerfully greeted by the staff, they took his YM out of and he bought it within 2 mins.

It’s better than empty display cases IMO. At least you can see what they look like and have chance to try them on.

Anyone seen this in AD Rolex showcase recently?

Rolex believes they are “Ferrari status”

Quite literally they believe they can pick and choose their customer base..

Those “Chosen Few” that are offered the great OPPORTUNITY to purchase a Rolex...

Ferrari started this 20 years ago demanding that customers acquire certain models before being offered the opportunity to purchase the supercars..

Rolex and other Luxury brands have set back and watched Ferrari have great success with this business model.

Some time probably 7 years ago Ferrari decided they would no longer offer new Ferraris for sale at their dealers.

Customers would have to come in look at pictures and preorder their new Ferrari..

Now we see Rolex trying this..

Rolex is simply copying what they see the “Greatest Luxury Brand” in the world Ferrari doing with great success.

So far.. it HAS worked for Rolex..

So far..

Upon venturing into AP for the first time, I appreciated they had a 'marketing piece' to be able to try on for size and fit to see if I wanted to try and get the watch. Better than only having photos once prices start creeping past 5 figures including any tax.

If your theory is true, not a bad thing at all. I like Rolex to be exclusive and sought after.

They had a few professional pieces on display at the AD on Scotts Road (Singapore) a couple of weeks back but were not for sale. Also saw a couple of pieces at Changi T3 (not for sale). They did not allow for photos to be taken as well.

Not sure why anyone would find this "annoying". Seeing a watch you are about to spend 10k+ on should be expected and normal. I have never seen Rolex models on but I sure as hell was happy when I walked into an AP boutique and was able to try on the 37mm and 41mm Royal Oaks and determine which one the right size is. I read many threads about it and was no closer to making a decision between 37 and 41mm models. All it took was seeing them for 5 minutes in real life to make that decision. Hope I can see more Rolex and PP "hot models" in stock even if they are just display models to try on.

Never seen plastic wrap like that on a new watch.
I have only seen that on replic watches.

Make sure to post an "Is it safe to lick..." thread. The metal may taste different depending where you are.

i've seen the plastic wrapping at my local omega AD. kinda makes it difficult to gauge whether or not i like the bezel action if it's wrapped in plastic. The ease of the bezel movement is what ultimately steered me toward the sub rather than getting a pelagos or black bay (which were originally what I was going to purchase).

just the kinda dealer I don't want to buy from. If they are not for sale, then get them into the safe and out of the display!

Exactly. Do people prefer they keep them in store but in the vault where you can’t see or try??

Yes they’re real. You can try them on as well. Rolex rotates them across ADs so they can’t sell them and are Rolex ‘promo’ materials.
