Help with a 1957 Gilt Explorer 6610
I've been offered this vintage Explorer 6610 from the grandaughter of the original owner. I would have to drive a couple of hours to see it in person/take it to a watch shop so I wanted to check with TRF before getting in the car. Any help as to originality of the hands, dial, etc would be helpful and greatly appreciated (any other thoughts, opinions are great too). Sorry for the terrible pictures but the seller has been trying and can't seem to get a super clear shot. Thanks!

Well... I can see that the age of both the dial and hands are about the same... But some more people will chime in...

According to my book, everything looks original, but the watch may have come on a rivitted bracelet. It was produced in the Mid 50s, and it should have a 1030 movement. Others can help you more. Tell the seller to press the macro feature (flower symbol) It will let her get up closer.

Ross - did she happen to give you the serial number? I think you are looking at an authentic 160K range gilt dial 6610 (from the looks of the coronet, font, font alignment, etc.). Not sure about the second hand. Some real experts will have to chime in on that. But based on the pics, it may be worth a ride.

I agree with Mike regarding the second hand.
These are POOR pics. If I can do anything from the DC area (take better pics for you), let me know! |

los good, the blackened radium lume on the min/hour is original and not soemthing someone would lash up, the white large dot second hand is correct for period, dial looks ok, but obviosuly condition of that and movemtn would need to be looked at in person...1030 movt wont be serviced by rolex but plenty of other can.
nice thing by the looks of it. |

I'd drive to check that one out. If you've got the time and can afford the gas, why not?

Jedly,
Can you PM me with names? I have been trying unsuccessfully for a long time to have my 1030 movement serviced? Thanks!
