Rebuilt 5512

Folks,

I've seen one in Singapore just a few days ago an 5512, shop owner told me it's a recased 5512 with new bracelet, bezel insert assy, hands and dial, all done by RSC Singapore... I am just wondering if it's worth getting. No longer all old original but it's surely to be watertight, etc. Whats your take , my friends?

Depends on the price and if the owner has the service papers which would be a deal breaker for me if he did not. Certainly not a show piece, but a good daily wearer.

If you decide, meet at AD and get it authenticated, paperwork is a plus, however do not rely on it. No AD no deal.

Thanks, folks. It has full service paperworks and the RSC is one building away. Seller willing to take it there, no problem. But I am still weighing things before I make some serious bargaining as the seller is asking quite a sum of money. In fact he has a 1655 SMQ, recased and all like the 5512 and he is asking almost US$15K!

So basically they have a watch made up of service replacement parts nothing original era and its like new for sale.If you wanted a new vintage looking watch and the price was right its not a bad thought. Can it be had for $3000-$4000?

I think you have to ask yourself what you like about the 5512.

For me it would be the tritium dial, and the patina that comes with the small details matching (hands/ insert/ bracelet/ case/ bevels, etc). All that disappears when a watch is brought back to like-new standards like what most RSC services do.

It seems like they washed away a great watch's soul.

Walk away, the prices being asked are way too high. If the 5512 was a good deal then I would have considered it. Seems to me this guy is gouging and asking way too much for way too little. Re-cased watches should be thousands below market, not thousands above.

It's just that I can't find an almost perfect, all original 5512. You are correct-that watch's life story ended when they totally rebuilt it.

As a daily wear if 100% functionality is your goal (luminova dial) it's something to consider. That price is way strong however.

I recently saw a virtually mint 5512, 3 mil. serial number, with a RSC factory overhaul, service replacement old-style dial, new hands, etc ... for just under $5K. You would get the vintage look but could wear it like a new watch, and even go diving with it. Still, an all-original 5512, which would be more expensive, of course, could still be brought back to original specs without replacing all the cool old parts that make it a true vintage. That's what I'd go for.

Woah, sounds like Top Hour!

That 5512 has been sitting there for a very long time. It sure looks good, but not at the outrageous asking price ...

Solomon, heard you met up with Fred too...hope you enjoy your stay in Singapore.

Cheers!

Hi Ben, The store in Lucky Plaza across Peng Kwee. You think it can be had for a good price? Oh yes with Fred last weekend.
Will be back again in SG soon!

Hi Solomon,

His price is very steep for that 5512...I have been asking about it many a time. Hoping that he would let it go for much less.

I doubt that it can be had for much less....probably due to Peng Kwee's exorbitant prices....helps it along...hahaha

Do drop me a PM, when you are heading over again...love to make a new friend.

Cheers!

15K is pretty cheap for a 5512......if it comes with a free Daytona!

Run, don't walk, out of that store.
