When I search that reference, I'm not seeing diamonds.

You might want to check with the Vintage Forum, or maybe the Watch Out Forum.

It's usually better to check these things before you buy.

Pictures would help.

Well I don't know....

But it's quite unusual for a datejust to be heavily paved with precious stones like that.....

Maybe others would chime in soon....

First let's start with the President bracelet which shouldn't be on that watch. Since it's an 80s watch it's possible that was added at the dealer but in general the bracelet is reserved for Day Dates or Lady's Presidents. The easiest way to determine the authenticity is to get it to an RSC for a repair quote. In general buying a Rolex from a known supplier is the best way to go. There are many watches that have added paved dials and gem encrusted cases and bracelets. You might try searching for a comparable dial on ebay to see what shows up as aftermarket as well. Oh and with respect to the paper; which do you think is easier to forge, the paper or the watch. I'd go with the paper.

I believe that reference was in fact available in all gold with a presidential bracelet.

The man I bought it from had 5 different variations of this watch it was a private collection and all the certificates were from the same Barcelona dealer it is definitely genuine certificate that marries up with the case number the only thing is the handwritten Rolex diamond Ruby special on the certificate

16,500 feels way too cheap for that to be all from Rolex factory.

I could be wrong and if so, an owner somewhere lost a lot of money when they sold

I know I got it for a good price, I would hate to think what the new price was back in the late eighties from Rolex. I was just more curious if was a way of confirming the originality but you're right probably just go to Rolex service centre.

Never seen an AD description like that on the guarantee paper, “Rolex Factory Special.” Would make me wonder if it was added later to justify a possible mod on the watch.

OP, the pictures help. This is not a run of the mill Rolex. Without a doubt, I’d recommend you send it to RSC. Let them put together a service estimate. They will identify anything that is wrong with the watch, including aftermarket parts.

All the diamonds are aftermarket, that dial dies not exist. Bezel is aftermarket, that model did not come with one. Band at best has had diamonds added, show is the clasp markings. Rolex did not make a fully paved band.

No way that’s all factory. Molested in my opinion, but I have been wrong before. Beautiful though.
