Hublot, Why do you love/hate?

Hello everyone.

I keep getting mixed reviews regarding Hublot watches. Some people say yes, and others no. AP design knockoff or just another Biver brand? Pioneers of the rubber strap or just a new money way of showing off?

What are your thoughts and why?

I cant lie, I do own one and I love it. I see both sides view and agree to some extent both ways, but IMO a watch is what ever you make it into. How ever you feel wearing it etc. With that said lets discuss....

I have mixed feelings. I have owned them and liked them. I think they get more hate than they deserve.

I’m torn on this one. There are a couple of them that I really like, but I’m not convinced by the quality and the marketing, particularly the English Premier League has really put me off the brand.

So overall I’m negative about Hublot but then every so often I see one that becomes a bit of a guilty pleasure. I saw Frank Lampard (who has an amazing watch collection) recently wearing a Spirit of Big Bang and it looked really good. If he’d chosen it, I may be influenced a little, but it’s a sponsorship thing so doesn’t influence me at all, quite the opposite.

It’s a guilty pleasure for me, but I say yes. I’ve always been a big fan of the Spirit of Big Bang (SoBB) collection. Zenith's strength is engineering and watchmaking. Hublot's strength is design and materials execution. Great combo! It's a close second Tonneau shaped case behind RM in my opinion. Being that RM is out of my league, the SoBB is a great alternative.

I would never buy one for the same reason I'm selling my AP and actively avoid overly flashy Rolex models; they attract the wrong type of attention. There's nothing wrong with them, especially now that they've tanked on the used market. This is maybe less of a problem depending on age/work though.

They are a mix of AP and RM. A mix of the worst of both brands IMO.

I have had the older big bangs and classic fusion. I still have a rose gold big bang. The new big bangs are too big for me, but I like them.

They're not my taste, so I'll never own one.

But I don't "hate" them.

I own a classic fusion chrono and love it. the hate about it looking like an AP is in my opinion not a reason to hate on them. the only similarity is the screw's on the bezel. plenty of other companies have copied AP and don't get the same kind of hate. Also, some of their innovations are huge such as magic gold and the full colored sapphire cases. If AP or Patek developed these they would get huge praise whereas Hublot does not.if you are worried about re-sale, buy used or get a minimum of a 30% discount from an AD.

Same here.
Love that reference.
Saw it in RG and fell on the floor.

Thanks everyone for the input. I am debating on a SoBB to go along with my ceramic Big Bang. I see the resemblance with AP and do like the Zenith has a hand in the mix. I dont think ill get another Big Bang as I don't really like duplicate watches.

Just so torn... in the 10-15K price bracket there isn't much else I like more then the SoBB, especially skeletonized like the Black Magic.

Hublot is very popular. I guess that’s the reason why many people dislike hublot.

You can take a look at the New Classic Fusion Ferrari GT, they are an absolute beauty on hand.
I have got one and have given a review here.
https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=701595

I think every watch brands have their own demographic, thus each has their lovers and haters. I personally love Hublot a lot, somehow their watches wears very comfortably, especially the big bangs. I was into AP at the start, however, I didn't have any feelings every time I wear one, even the 15202 was underwhelming to me.
There's so much innovation that goes on with Hublot, they are probably one of the brands I look forward to the most during Baselworld.

Everyone have different taste in design, so to each is their own.
If they are getting hate, you know they have got people's attention.

As much hate as it gets, you know they are doing a lot of things right, pretty sure the revenue Hublot generates, tells a different story :)

My issues with them is that they are over marketed and over hyped.

I realize that products need to be marketed and Biver was a master, but the constant new crop of "ambassadors" and the limited edition of the week feel like more manipulation than marketing.

Add to that they are trendy and attract a new money flashy crowd and it just adds up to a brand I would never buy.

They are the Kardashians of watches to me. Constantly seeking attention.

this interview just came in time for this thread.

https://londonreal.tv/e/jean-claude-biver/?sdfasdf

He did address about people criticising and hating the brand at one point.

Can never be tired of his passion when speaking about watches.

I like Hublot since the 80s but I never bought one till they launched their sapphire series .. I bought my first Hublot.. the Unico Sapphire. I love the robustness and the price is very reasonable and wears exceptionally good. Keep great time as well! Love it!!

They have the ability to make really cool pieces. They just need to tone down the ridiculous, over the top watches and obnoxious marketing.

Just saw this on Instagram, think it looks awesome.

Have never really thought much about the brand before but today I picked up a classic fusion 42mm in racing grey. I’m usually a bracelet wearer but this one feels really good on the leather/rubber strap and is surprisingly understated. I like it a fair bit

These are all great replies...

Im still so torn. Im building my watch collection as this new "hobby" is quite entertaining.

I agree with everyone on the flavor of the week style marketing is played out and devalues the brand.

Think a SOBB is next for me as they are reasonably priced and I really like the look. Just wish that AP owners didn't snub their noses at the pieces.

I really want to buy a new Hublot but Im not sure if they look good on my small wrists and even the buckle comfort isn't that great...

Here are few pics I took at the AD ... Does it look too big? Its 42mm big bang ceramic... IMG_20190802_212803.jpegIMG_20190802_212756.jpegIMG_20190802_212619.jpeg

Don't worry about other's view on your watch, I think well minded watch enthusiast will respect whatever watch is on the wrist. Just get what you like! At the end of the day, you will be the one looking at your wrist most of the time.
