These are the "fold-over" links, for lack of a better term. To me it seems the only way is to stretch the links open from the backside and remove them, but somehow that just doesn't seem right.

Thanks for that. It would seem easier to open up the 2 links on either side of the center link, which is what I did on two of my (very) cheap watches. It was also easier to squeeze them back together. Not a problem to do, but I would think putting the links back on could at best weaken those links, ie metal fatigue. Oh, well, best on a strap then!
