Gold Daytona Dreaming: YG vs WG

Been contemplating my next watch and the Ceramic Gold Daytonas have really been catching my eye recently. Stopped by the local AD and they had a yellow gold one that was being shipped out to a customer, but was able to take a look at it.

Kind of always thought I preferred the versatility and subdued nature of the WG, but the YG is stunning. I like how the champagne dial is almost a silvery-gold and changes significantly in various lighting conditions. I'd hesitate on the YG primarily since it feels more difficult to pair with clothes, and also if it attracts a bit too much attention (although the OF / Ceramic helps)

Not that I'm going to buy anytime in the next year (just got an AP 15450 so need to slow down) but what say you all - YG or WG?

I know WG is more popular here, but that champagne dial is just stunning. In my mind, that dial looks better than WG dial and I’ve seen both in person. However, YG case is not my style :)

At least YG is little easier and cheaper to acquire.

The other day, I saw a white gold, ceramic on oyster-flex that had a dark/black MoP diamond dial. It was spectacular. Really did not need to know about that one. Oy.

I was lucky enough that my AD had both (and Yacht Master 40 too). I confess that I was partial to the WG but especially the steel face before ever even arriving at the AD.

I tried on the YG Daytona first. Extremely beautiful. No doubt. The champagne dial and yellow gold case didn't provide enough contrast for me though. Next I tried on the WG. It was amazing and I knew it was the right watch for me. Black strap with WG case and steel face was sharp. Lastly, I tried on the YM40, which did nothing for me. I thought that I'd love the matte bezel but none of it worked for me. If they had a YG version with the matte bezel, I think I'd be in love!

The YG felt way more like a dress watch than the WG. I'm not sure how you normally dress, but the versatility of the WG was a huge draw for me. I can wear it with jeans or a suit or anything in between. The YG felt too formal for me.

It sounds like you're partial to the YG. It's an amazing watch. I guess I had to be the one person to vote WG! I'll try to upload a few pictures of both watches tomorrow.

Yellow gold for me. My 116508 is my favorite with the black dial and champagne counters. I wear it more than any other watch.

I have to say that the white gold version with the blue dial is stunning, though. Saw one at a local AD recently.

Daytona YG or WG

i have the YG green dial and really love it. the WG is very nice as well (and it is on my list) though but if i have to decide then it is YG.

White Gold.....Understated is the way to go. And there's actually more precious metal in Rolex White Gold than there is in Yellow Gold.

I prefer YG but with kids, it is hard to wear it and go anywhere with safety in mind.

Why, the kids make you feel vulnerable? WG/Pt does fly under the radar.

YG for sure. I have the champagne oysterflex and it's stunning. Not difficult to match at all.

My friend has the WG oysterflex, it's beautiful but a bit too subdued for my taste.

WG on OF also gets my vote, however every option in this reference is fabulous so its a personal choice at the end of the day.

For context, I do not like yellow gold but I like the YG on OF Daytona. It makes no sense to me as I find YG to showy. Yet this model with the black OF band, seems to tone it down enough to appease me.

A related question, can you swap the Oyesterflex to leather strap? I mean of course you can but is there a Rolex original option to purchase strap for that watch?
