Renfield, once you own one, you will appreciate the TUDOR sub for what it is. While it may have a ROLEX case on it, it has its own history, look, movement, and following. I didn't purchase my TUDORs hoping to fool myself or anyone else into thinking it was a ROLEX, I bought it for what it is. And their popularity is on the rise.

You know...I love Tudor Subs....I just don't seem to hold on to them for long.

I just sold my 10th one in the last 8 years.

And I know I'll end up getting another one in the next year or so. It's just that with the birth year 1680 I just got, it was a bigger deal to me then the Snowflake so I dropped it.

I can certainly understand selling or trading one watch for another. I am not saying I will forever hold onto my Tudor Subs, just that, the Tudor has its own character that makes it unique.

I'm on board with that as well I like the Tudor subs. maybe its the reason I have now moved the Black Bay to the top of my list wants. Now I will have to make a trip to some country that sells them.

I'm the original poster....

and I have to say....WOW! Great replies to my post...didn't expect so many enthusiasts to respond, and the photos are outstanding...great fun to see the variety of Tudor Subs out there. And those "Rose" vintages are stunning. Would love to see the thread continue.

" Rolex will not service vintages beyond a certain age so one is left to the independents and to the hope that parts will be available and marginally affordable --- never a worry with an ETA-based Tudor, and will not be a worry for many, many years to come."

Is this information "posted" somewhere or does one just make an attempt to have an old one serviced to see if Rolex services it or not?

-----

Phone any major Rolex Service Center and ask them whether they'll service your vintage. They'll ask you for the model reference and let you know whether they'll service it. If they won't, they may refer you to one or more local independent Rolex-trained watchmakers with whom they have trusted business relationships.

They are great watches but personally I feel that an icon like Rolex, should not make cheaper watches under another name.

Apparently the founder of Rolex disagrees.

I love the look of some of the old Tudor subs. The only reason I don't own one yet is that there's only so much money I can throw at this hobby. But that's the same reason I don't yet own a Heuer Autavia, a Seiko 62mas, or a host of other watches I have to own.... someday.

Why not? MANY companies do that. The mistake Rolex made, was making the Tudors nicer than the Rolex watches

My favorite Tudor is probably the 94010. Used by the French navy back in the day

+1

I am snowflake addicted. The oldies have character (more than run of the mill 16610s, at least for me), value is mounting and they are a bit less wrist-ostentatious than their more expensive cousins, which is good in the office.

BUT you will be taken for a fake watch wearer. People detecting Rolex coronets on crown and bracelet with a different brand dial are totally convinced they are fakes. Just don't try to explain.... Waste of time. I could not care less anyway.
