Canada goose jacket
Hey all,
Contemplating picking one up. I've always been a northface and patagonia guy, is the Canada goose jackets warmer better or a waste of money. Thanks for input |

I have a down hooded coat I bought a few years ago and I love it. Its perfect for cold winters like we had in NYC last year. I also wear it in CO
I don't think they are necessarily warmer than comparable jackets by Northface or Patagonia... just another brand of similar quality. I was a big fan of Northface in the 90's but I stopped buying/wearing once it became urban wear |

Not sure on how cold you're going to be in, that would help. I've only had a goose down jacket when i was young and it was alight, but i didn't like the puffiness.
In cold weather i will wear this layering: This is what i wore in the coldest temp i've ever in, -36ºF and i was quite warm. cashmere sweater heavy shetland wool shawl collar cardigan Barbour Sapper jacket Pants: military issue extreme cold thermals Boots: Red Wing Wingshooter boots with 100% wool socks Legs were warm, torso was warm. My hat was a shearling skin bomber hat, which was ok, could feel the wind through the seams, ever so slightly. Again, it'd help to know the kind of situation you'd be needing the jacket in. I wore this much because the water pump and radiator failed on the Jeep and had to replace it that day. If i was going to the store, then it's a different story, comprised of the same clothes, just in different quantities.

unless you're in the snow belt or on Hoth, they're too warm to wear with a light sweater or in the car. (speaking from experience).
good if you're a t-shirt person and enjoy being outside in the winter regardless of the weather or temps. |

There is a broad line up of jackets so I'm sure you'll be able to find something. They're top quality garments made in Canada. Given that you're in NYC, don't really think you'll need the jackets with the full down and hoods with the fur lining.

Ok...this is one area that I have the rest of the forum on!!
They are great jackets. VERY warm. Not THE warmest, but I have quite a few trapper friends that swear by them to keep them warm at -60 and in the middle of nowhere. You will not be disappointed if you want to warm! Down is a tricky product. VERY warm...when dry. If persperation is a concern, or any chance of getting wet: you don't want down.

If you live in nyc, I would go with the Canada Goose Branta with Loro Piana fabric. Very warm, and fits nyc perfectly, under the radar compared to having those bright colors with CG patch.

I have the red one in the above photo.
I am thin and get cold easily. I bought LL Bean's warmest jacket and was still freezing in 20 degree F weather. So I went on an internet search for a month, analyzing every coat on earth. And I bought the Canada Goose with built-in hood and arctic expedition patch on the breast. It is the warmest jacket I have ever owned. So warm I only wear it when temps are lower than 30 F. (in Wash D.C. area). And when I wear it I do not need a sweater. Amazing. It gets 5 stars from me. The absolute best. Not sure what I'll do with it when we move to Southern Cali. |

Canada Goose makes a great product, I love mine, bought it a year ago this past August, got to use it a bunch during the Polar Vortex last year but honestly it's overkill for a normal winter day in the Northeast, it has to be extremely cold to warrant it's use otherwise you are sweating in > 20 degree temps.

Canada Goose are quality jackets, but is important to choose the right model, otherwise you'll never wear it, i can only wear my Expedition Parka when is really cold, even a -20 C I can only wear a t-shirt underneath, if i also wear a jumper, it's already too hot for me. |

I have the Black bomber with hood and my teen aged daughter has the same in Red. We love them. They are warm and very well made. They are a North American product too. So good for the economy.

I have the Chiliwack Bomber Blue Polar Bear edition. Not to warm for me even in the relatively mild winter in the Netherlands.
The inner side of the arm is noticeably thinner an you can feel that. It is not a raincoat but I had mine treated with some coating and that made it more waterproof. I like the design and the brand very much. My next one will be a Canada Goose again.

I have numerous jackets from the brand and love them. I have a newer line they carry called the Branta series and it is lighter and not as puffy, slimmer fitting. My wife has one from that series as well and loves it. Otherwise the Canada goose brand itself is beautiful and have lots of styles that suit your body type.

They're Pricey but made very well and are a nice change from the usual puffy nylon products you see a lot of. If I am on the winter sea I usually wear a North Face nylon down parka. It's a lot cheaper and folds up better for packing.. I doubt that they are any "warmer" than other high-end cold weather gear..

Well, my cousin works for Canada Goose, and I managed to get a tour of their facility, and watch my jackets getting made locally in Toronto.
I must say they are very good jackets, and they use top quality materials, as others said you will not be disappointed. |

Can't talk on the Canadian goose coat but can say that the new/old Eddie Bauer1936 skyliner is crazy warm! And if you are not running around in negative temps the micro-therm is also great without adding weight. Eddie also treats their goose down with a chemical to keep it from absorbing moisture. And everything gets an unconditional lifetime warranty, so rip it and they replace it.

down / hollofill mix , had a 100% down jacket as part of a system , and it was grand , but if it got wet ,, oh no , may as well wear a string vest , and it was a pain to get it to loft again , as much as i like the down idea its hard to beat some of the new fills ,,, now merino wool as a base layer makes a huge change to what you need as a jacket.

I'm going to buy the Branta Ellison jacket. It's a lightweight urban wear jacket by Canada Goose. Looks amazing and should be plenty warm for what I need in Toronto climate.

Up here in Alaska, Apocolypse Design is who you want making your stuff.
Top it off with some Polar bear, and it's perfect for the cold winters!
