seems to similar for me to own both. that's my problem with it.

I own an OP 39, blue. It is stunning, truly stunning. The sunburst effect with every shade of blue, from midnight to sky-blue in the right light, the almost Spartan white gold, black mirror-polished indices, it's the absolute business.

I also own a plat 36mm Day-Date with ice-blue Arabic wave dial. The OP 39 holds its own with its understated class. Here's a review of the current black dial, and I'm seriously tempted. It has the exact same 3132 movement as the Explorer I, so it's a rugged piece if need be. It was the OP which was taken to the summit of Everest, after all, before the Explorer went into production, so it has the ultimate "Explorer" heritage as well. It's an ancestor of the DJ, and all other Rolex Oyster Perpetual watches, i.e everything other than Cellini, so it is the quintessential intrepid Gents' reliable and stylish Rolex.

Excellent Youtube review here, except he seems to have missed the fact that both watches have the same movement inside:

That's what I said, I would not. I'd choose the Exp unless you need a date.

OP 116000 Blue 3-6-9 Arabic Dial

I own both an Explorer 14270 & a 114270, BUT this OP gets the most wrist time (pardon the pun) for me nowadays - you should see it on a tan ostrich leather strap !

But hey, they're all basically the same Oyster Perpetual watch anyways, so lucky me......

Gold bezel. Date. New movement with 70 hour power reserve. And most importantly... Easylink. Better resale. To me that’s enough to justify the cost. Get a smooth bezel and save an additional 2k.

I personally prefer the DJ41 with fluted bezel and oyster bracelet but am looking to buy an OP39 with white or rhodium dial for my wife. She prefers the understated ellegance look.

Yep 36 all 3 - although the OP seems to wear 'bigger' than the 2 Explorers (maybe the domed bezel, the dial or a combination of the 2) all 3 are superb watches though.
