AD Visit

Stopped by my local ad today after a haircut, and got to try on a couple things. The 39mm Explorer is tight. Size felt great. I thought I'd be more concerned about the short-ish hands, but it didn't really bother me on the wrist. Not totally sold on the non-lume 3-6-9. Not sure it matters (salesperson: are you going spelunking? Good point).

Also tried 2 versions on the newer 36mm Datejust on the super jubilee. Not super impressed with either. I'm thinking stick with the brushed oyster band (I currently have an Air-king and green SubC).

Love AD visits. Glad you are happy with what you have. Usually, it is the other way around, wanting for more.

Sounds like the OP 39 is right up your alley. Should give it a shot, lume and longer hands.

I love my 39mm explorer. Is the minute hand a bit short, sure, but I would never had thought about it without forums and over analyzing with the previous generation. I would also take the new lume over the old and the bar markers glow enough to tell time at night. I feel people skip over this model for silly reasons. This piece is by far the most comfortable piece out of my Rolex collection (subc, daytona, explorer 2) and other brands too. For me it still maintains the traditional oyster case and low profile design that is clean and modern without yelling luxury watch.

Thanks for the input y'all. I'm going to continue the search. I'd like to try on a 36mm explorer to see how that feels. I wish the 114270 came with the newer oyster bracelet. The newer version seems like a huge improvement.

I've looked at the 39mm OPs, but the dials aren't really doing it for me, particularly the contrasting color dots on the 5 minute markers. Plus I like the explorer style hands, when sized appropriately.
