Thinking about getting a rolex... exp 2 or SD
Thinking about adding my first rolex to the collection. Have a Black Bay and speedy pro.
I've seen some opportunities to purchase a couple of older models locally, the Explorer 2 16570 black dial, and the Sea dweller 16600. There are obvious pros and cons to both these watches.. the explorer 2 seems like a cheaper way to enter the Rolex fray...the Sea Dweller to me seems more of a classic that might deem to be more collectable in the future. Both wear great with their modest size.Which should I get?

Is that because the SD May be more collectible in the future? Are they rarer? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Between those two, the SD...but neither will be more collectible than the other. There are probably more 16600s in circulation than Exp lls. So get the one you like most considering that the SD is a bit more difficult to find in the condition you want.

imho
i prefer the polar Exp II, it goes better with the SS bezel. if an SD, i prefer the newer discontinued SD4000, mainly because the modern bracelet supports the otherwise top heavy 16600. the modern SD4000 also has the satin dial and full minute markers that set it apart from the other 40mm diver offerings from rolex. also expected to hold its value well.

Between those two, I would choose the Sea Dweller. I like any diver better than an Explorer, just a matter of taste.

The expy 2 is probably the most comfortable sport Rolex out there. The SD will b top heavy, it’s not for everyone. I don’t think u could go wrong with either, it’s a matter of preference.

16600 before it’s too late. Not easy getting a bargain on these anymore. Bought one of many I’ve owned brand new around 2006. Think I paid around 3500 USD in Norway at the time.

Explorer 2 is a great watch, extremely comfortable and the polar versions are becoming popular. Be warned the the stainless bezel loves to show nicks along its edges no matter how careful you are.

The Explorer 2 is a low profile watch and is very confortable. If you are concerned about such things, make sure the SD fits under the sleeve of your shirt.

Both great watches. I'd see if you can find some to try on. I love the SD, but it wears very tall. For me, it sat on a bone in my wrist that made it unwearable. I love my Exp II
