Newbie Retail Question

This might be a dumb question but I can't figure out the reason...

How come a brand new Rolex Submariner 114060 is listed as $7500 retail MSRP on their website. Then on here in classifies a 2-3+ year old 114060 sells for more than new? I've seen 7.9K or more

Thanks

So supply is low on retail? Therefore used is way to go?

Depends on where you live. I walked into my local AD and bought one about a month ago for MSRP...$7500

For one many ADs near me do not have any subs in stock and that’s probably the case elsewhere. Secondly if it’s in near mint condition you’re saving on tax some. Would I pay $7900 for a 2-3 year old 114060? Probably not. I see the many no dates of this age closer to $7400-$7500. Ultimately comes down to basic supply/demand.

Rules for buying at the moment: if you can find one at retail, for retail pricing, buy it. Retail is the new discount.

There is such a low supply of watches and such a high demand for the product that people are willing to pay more than the product was originally sold for from the authorized dealer.

Hope this helps.

I live in South Florida so I am going to guess they are sold out if that's what is happening elsewhere

The “way to go” price wise on most current stainless steel sport references is buying them retail from your AD. The market has turned upside down the last 12-18 months.

If that difference alarms you, try looking at the green sub or the new Daytona.

Then ask why you can buy a new Platona for $15K below MSRP.

Clearly insanity...

I think you should be able to find a sub no date with not too much trouble from an AD. There is general shortage, but they can also order it for you with a fairly short wait time.
Go to your local ad and ask, or make some phone calls in your area.

The premium is usually just if you have to have it almost immediately... but they are out there if you don’t mind some legwork and maybe a short wait.. good luck!

I'm in central FL and it is the same here. On the "list" for several models for quite awhile but a no date sub am told can be had in a few weeks as most desire the date. It'll happen.

Since you're in Florida try Mayors, I've seen plenty of submariners come and go over the months.

I would talk to the local AD and even put down half the price as a deposit, to show you are serious about buying the next one coming in.

But since I am not that good at waiting, and since you are already in Florida, I would say contact DavidSW if you are in a hurry and buy with confidence.

If supply is restricted and demand increases, there is no way you can reduce the price. It can only go up until market demand has been met, hopefully...

Wait for the next recession which is right around the corner. The price will come back to reality and most people paying double retail for the new Pepsi will have lost money.

If you really want to find one at MSRP at the stated price, then it's not really that difficult to do. Ask nicely at a few dealers, and one will turn up quicker than you might think.

Don't guess...go and check out a few ADs in your area and report back to us. If you find stocked inventory of desirable professional models please state AD and contact details. ☺

For a Rolex Submariner 114060 random serial I imagine you can get gently used for a few hundred off msrp. Just look around. There are tons of trusted sellers.

i called all around the country for a steel sub or GMT steel, just for fun. always told LONG waiting list. i found a few explorer 1 MK2's, and that is it for steel sports. i was told at one dealer that maybe i could get a black GMT after a wait...
