#3 for me.

I recently purchased a new old stock version of the watch from a dealer for €6000 (got a slight discount so the price isn’t so bad).

Wonderful watch and it looks amazing when worn casually

Two watches with 3186

Random on left with thin marker dial

VS

M serial on right

$1175 difference......

What to do?

Wow I didn't know there was a thin marker dial. It'll likely be worth more in the future due to its rarity. However, I prefer the one on the right with the darker markers. I think darker markers gives it more contrast and looks better.

I own a 3186 exactly like the one on the right, you won't regret it!

If you've narrowed it down to these, then go with whichever is cheaper at this point

Both have engraving, both have 3186, and both have SEL. Granted both are in same condition...go for the one thats $1175 less...

Right one. Thin markers does nothing to me.

Wasn’t even aware the Polar had a thinner marker dial version, if you look closely at the Lume circles Colin you will notice the thinner black paint lined circles vs the thicker circles version on the right side.

Thank you, I’d never heard of or noticed that dial variant before.

Here are better photos of the “Thin Marker” variant. It honestly looks great in person almost a maxi dial effect? The lume marker seem flat compared to the normal.

If you're actually considering the 214270 MK2 Explorer I would opt for this one.
No contest.

I agree that the thin marker look nicer with bigger lume.

Here is my random serial polar 3186 movement and you can see the thinner marker. This is great watch and I will strongly recommend this watch if you consider to add the explorer in collection.

Not sure I’m digging the “thinner marker” version. Just looks off and not as crisp.

Not to throw a complete wrench in your plan but I bought a no-holes case exp ii polar from the for sale section a couple years ago in the very low $4k range..

No box/ papers but who cares. Just paying extra for those. Can’t wear them.

At this point in time, I'd only buy a 5-digit with papers...also, not a fan of the thinner markers on the 16570. IMHO, I wouldn't get too hung up on the 3186 movement...the 3185 is a proven workhorse.
