Help me decide what to buy! Explorer or Sub-C No Date

I would go Exp 39mm IMO, I did and don't regret it, the sub c does wear big and high. The Exp is more versatile and can be worn for all occasions. To me it's a more classy piece.

If you can get the SubC to satisfactorily fit, then it is really worth considering as it is a super watch. Don't worry about the 'fake thing' - the vast majority of people won't notice you are wearing a Rolex.....this is way over played. Even if it turns out the SubC is not for you, you can easily move it on. Good luck!

Keep the Explorer you currently have . I garantee you will regret spending a lot of $ on the 39mm version; it really looks foolish as opposed to the really nice one you already own. And that Sub... no, don't buy anything and stick to what you have.

They all look good IMO. For me, I have a SubC and use the bezel frequently and if you would get that utility out of it I think it's worthwhile to consider it. Otherwise again you can't go wrong with your current or either of the two options.

Been there done that with my skinny wrist. If you are in San Francisco drive down to LA and stop into the Rolex Service Center. Go up to the desk and say "I would like a permanent link removed from the 6 o'clock side for the purposes of centering the clasp" (bring all of your extra links with you if you have them). They will say - "OK". You will have a centered clasp and a bracelet that fits and feels great and save big bucks.

Going through this decision myself. Have you tried on a easier sub to see if it works better on your wrist? A 5513 or 14060 might work and with the money you save on buying a new rolex from an AD you could get the preowned fully serviced by RSC or a service person of your choice. You might also take less of a bath if you want to trade it later. Just my opinion.

Like others say, the 36 looks best on you, by far. It is a great fit.

While I personally prefer the sub, i do not think the sub looks better on your wrist due to width

The 36 mm fits you excellent, the other 2 at the limit, you could also go for one of them. If you want to replace the 36, Sub would be the choice, if you have need for the bezel

Got my sub at 25, a 16610, take a look at the previous model. They're a bit more... uh... less chunky. May work perfectly for what you're looking for

Wow, thanks for all the feedback! I wasn't expecting so many people to be in favor of the 36mm Explorer.

I do agree that with the newer watches I'm really on the limit. My wrist is pretty flat on top so I didn't see much lug overhang, but any wider (tried the 42mm Explorer II) and it would be hanging off my wrist a little.

I have tried all the bracelet adjustments. I did have a permanent link removed, so I have 3 links on the 6:00 side plus the linked riveted to the clasp = 4 links. Unfortunately my wrist is really thin on that side compared to the 12:00 side, so this is still about half a link too much. The new bracelets let you have 3 links + a half link attached to the clasp, which is perfect.

I also thought about trying to find a new bracelet or clasp and swapping out with the current one, but with that price difference I could basically get one of newer watches from a trusted seller here. Plus, I kinda like the idea of a watch with a little more wrist presence if I can pull it off without looking goofy (although opinions here seem pretty split on whether that is the case with the newer watches, haha).

I own a SubC date and a lumed Explorer 1, along with other watches. The lumed Explorer may be my favorite watch. I love how it wears.

I just showed these pictures to my wife. She thought the Sub was more youthful looking for a you, being a young man.

She didn't think the size of the watches made much of a difference.

The 36mm is a perfect size for those with smaller wrists.

There is a trend of people wearing larger watches. However it is almost like the 80's and 90s when people wore clothes that were oversized. If you look at old photos or films from that era, people's attires look quite atrocious by today's standards. I am not saying in 20 years that larger watches will be gone. But it is best to find and wear watches that look appropriate for your wrist size.

Both the lumed Explorer 39mm and the sub look too big for your wrist. Your current Explorer is perfect for you. You're lucky! Keep it and enjoy. Don't get caught up in the BIG WATCH hype.
