Straight trade for 1680 Sub?
Would it be crazy to find a "Hulk" and consider trading my "Sub in white" 1977 year production for it?
I ask because seeing the raise in prices for clean 1680's is getting crazy. And then would letting go such an iconic vintage timepiece that will be worth much more in the years to come vs the Hulk? I love the Hulk, but would it be prudent to try and find a trade for the Hulk? |

I wouldn't do it, even if the 1680 doesn't have any sentimental value for you. The Hulk can be easily acquired.

This is such a personal thing. I recently traded my 1665 as I wasn't enjoying wearing it as I was terrified of damaging it. It seemed crazy keeping it locked away and I got a great price. I now have a 16610 that I wear everyday, a 1675 long E for a weekend special and cash in the bank. If it works for you do it.

Yes, that is certainly a consideration. I daily wear it and while it is a phenomenal watch I do worry about what if there's an accident and it's damaged. Also I know it's value only increases each year while a Hulk may have a way to drop in value before it starts to climb it's way back up.
I think the more I consider...the more I should not do it. |

I would hang on to the 1680....that's one of those references that's prob on the verge of making another jump since it hasn't went totally nuts yet. The LVC will be around for awhile......as long as the 1680 is properly kept.....and you're not doing daredevil stunts /actual diving with it, I don't see a problem with wearing it either.

I would not do it. Your 1680 is a stunner and the Hulk is readily available and will be for a while.

Definitely keep the 1680! I love the hulk and the sub c's but what you have is pretty hard to find. I'd like to find one from '76 someday...once my wife gets over my last purchase.

Are you the original owner? What's the sentimental value to you? Do you only want to keep it because it could go up in value?
Those are the questions you need to ask. Maybe the value will go up, but keeping it just for that is not the reason to keep a watch. I can find decent investments over a time period for a decent return. Buy what you like and wear the hell out of it. |

Hi I have been looking for one for my birthday to celebrate half time. If you decide to part ways I'd be interested.

Not a good move. Keep the 1680 and add the Hulk.

Re:
For a 1680 with non-service dial, hands and insert, I would say keep it because the value will go up.
In your case, a full-set 116610LV with all factory-original parts would be a good piece to trade in the 1680 for. |

Been there, done that, and have never looked back. Purchased my 1680 new and wore it for 30+ years daily, was ecstatic when offered a new SubC, even trade, for an old watch that Rolex won't even service anymore. I do not collect watches or have a watch rotation, just one daily wear, so my taste in these things differs from collectors. But if you want a fabulous new Submarnier to wear daily, there is no comparison between a SubC and 1680.

If the only thing holding you back is the thought that the 1680 may go up in value, I'd flip. I wear watches that I want to wear, not potential investments.
I should say that I really like the LVc, though, and find it to be more special than a 1680. |

Thank you for the kind replies and opinions. I'll keep the offers for the trades and cash in my mind if I ever want to do a deal.
The replies seem to be keep it, versus trade it. Thank you, Rick |
