Daytona advice ?

Unsurprisingly I have been told by my AD that I have no chance of getting a SS Daytona 116500 LN.

They can get me a gold Daytona but I don’t want that, so they have suggested
either a 116518 LN, 19 or 15.

I’m not very familiar with either of those; any thoughts?

Buy only what you truly want. If that is a SS Daytona, wait for the opportunity. The other references you mentioned are great but don’t settle!

I understand your AD said no chance.

If it were me, I would start talking to other ADs. Enjoy the hunt :)

Take your time, buy what you want. Look in the gray market and at our TS. The watches are there it just depends on how much you will pay and when you will get the watch.

The Daytona refs 11651x means they sit on oysterflex (current) or leather (older), as opposed to the 11650x (current) or 11652x (older) which sit on PM oyster.
The last digit signifies the type of gold: 5 for rose, 8 for yellow, 9 for white.

The 116519 silver panda is really nice, IMO. Under the radar and not much more $ than a grey market 116500!

Buy what you want to own and wear, never settle.

Maybe time to look at other watches, lots of great iconic watches out there in that price range

i agree... getting one from an AD with no prior history is gonna be an issue but if you dont mind grey market and the mark up... it seems thats the way to go to get what you really want

Personally, I got the 116519LN over the 116500 and wouldn’t have it any other way...

My advice if you really want the watch.....take a trip to the US and buy from a trusted seller here and wear it home. Enjoy it and be done with it.....leave the hype behind.

If however you are just wanting the watch because of the hype, my advice is to forget it and try other watches. Too many other gems to be hung over a stainless Daytona.

Unfortunately, even if you get away with not paying taxes on the way back (which is a pretty dangerous game) if you factor in travel costs this works out no cheaper than buying grey here.

If that's the case (didn't know, I know this works out better than buying grey with the pricing now in Asian countries)....should just buy grey and forget about it if this is THE watch for the OP. I don't think anyone trying to get on the list now is going to get the watch anytime soon/at all without purchasing something else of significance......the stories you hear about people walking in to an airport AD and scoring one is about as likely as winning the lottery at this point.

get 116519LN. It's the second best Daytona out there, first one being the ice blue platinum.

Daytona SS is very hard to get, but not impossible. I would suggest doing due diligence on steps that are in your control -- go to multiple ADs and intro yourself, see if they will take deposit on it which might bring you 1 step closer, read threads on 'hard to reach' Rolex here on TRF, etc.

its requiring some work on your end and then it comes down to waiting game. if you are on the list, you can check with AD from time to time if there's any update. some folks are on list for years and then call comes eventually.

as with AD strategy, if you are previous customer or have relationship with AD, those get first dibs and get on top of the waiting list. I don't want to discourage you however it will be quite a wait unless you take 'out of ordinary' measures than waiting -- if you purchase 2 Rolexes from AD, you can make it contingent that one is Daytona. they will find a way to get you one fairly quickly vs other ppl on waiting list

good luck!

I ended up buying a 116506 Platinum Daytona because I didn’t want to pay above MSRP for a SS 116500
