Would a Daytona date be farfetched by Rolex’s standards?

Daytonas are really hot right now with lots of talk about it becoming THE rolex of rolexes even over the submariner. Could any of you see rolex making such a radical change to the Daytona in the near future, adding a date around 4-5 o’clock? One of the first comparisons I can think of is the AP royal oak which does it with elegance.

The Daytona has stuck to its roots mostly since its inception so I can’t see this being such an easy decision to make. However, I think a Daytona date with a ceramic bezel would easily be more in demand even more so than the SS Pepsi.

Thoughts?

No one knows what Rolex might ever do.

Having said that, a chronograph (IMHO) does not need a date. Whether someone wants that complication is a personal preference.

I think it would upset the symmetry of the dial and the price increase would not be negligible.

chronographs with date windows are all worse for having it.... except the datograph.

I tolerate it on some watches but even on the ROC it looks bad. Passable, but bad.

I hope to never see a Daytona with a date function.

Isn't that what we call the Tudor Chrono?

I like the way Omega made the date/second had one sub dial on my Speedmaster.

Years ago, I think way back in the 50s, Rolex made a chronograph with a date function, only it wasn't a window. There was an arm, kind of like a GMT arm that pointed to the outside of the dial. There were numbers 1-31 and IMHO, I think it was a lot easier to read the date at a glance with this type of display. If Rolex would come up with that I know I would buy one!

I can't see it happening. The Daytona isn't likely to change size any time soon and the dial would be way too cluttered with a date window. Some people complain about legibility as it is.

Rolex won't make that kind of radical change to the Daytona

If they did want to make a Chrono with a date they would introduce it as a new model indipendant of the Daytona.

....pretty much how they wanted to increase the size of the Sub date but daren't mess with original, so introduced it as a new model called the 50th Anniversary Sea Dweller...

...taxi

Was that on a chrono or moon phase watch? I liked that execution of design as well though. Wish I would’ve bought a true beat while they were still cheap too

After the SS Skydweller the SS Pepsi and the cyclops on the Sea Dweller nothing is off the table. I have learned to never say never with Rolex.

i have owned several Daytonas' over the last forty years and eventually sold them as they had no date. Mind you, this was well before cell phones.
