Collection pics and general thoughts

Hi all, not been on here that long and thought I’d post a pic of my collection with a bit of a back story and some general thoughts.

I started with the 114060 as my only watch and loved it. Actually, that’s not quite right...I actually started with a Seamaster that I wore every day for 10yrs before selling it and “upgrading” to the Sub.

Then, I was lucky enough to win the DJ41 and I designated this my “dress watch”. I think this was like a gateway drug for me!

I always wanted the BLNR and my dealer managed to get one in for me but whilst waiting the Tudor BB GMT’s landed in the U.K. and my lovely fiancé ended up buying one for me!

Need another pic of this fantastic piece!

So then I managed to pick up the BLNR and out of the blue the same dealer offered me a SD43, which I couldn’t turn down.

This piece sat around un sized with stickers on as I was unsure how it sat alongside my 114060...fast forward a few months and I’m sat here wearing the bloody thing and now all this talk about the mk1 anniversary year dial (without Rolex coronet between Swiss made at six o’clock) I’m worried values are gonna go even higher. I’m already a bit apprehensive about £10k+ on the wrist...is it £5k better than my 114060

Now each morning I wake up and wonder which watch to wear...in fact, this fine Sunday morning I’m sat on the couch wearing one on each wrist, SD43 and the 114060. I find myself trying to weigh them up against each other and make a decision on how I feel about the larger SD43...I think the Tudor GMT has taken me down the road of being comfortable with slightly larger cases.

Anyways, I hope my ramblings and pictures are of interest and know that just sometimes I wonder if I should have just stuck with my old trusty Seamaster, scratches and all.

Gary you have a super collection of modern references!

I have to admit I never compared any of my existing collection, but I have with those I am interested in...which ultimately means buying more watches.

Nice collection and back story!
As for SD vs 114060 - both fit nicely in your collection. Everyone's got their own tastes but if forced to choose, I prefer the larger case, satin dial, red line and fully graduated bezel of the SD. The new 3235 movement is another small perk as well.

Cheers guys.

I do think I find myself comparing my current collection because they all came about so quickly...its been an exciting year! Also, quite difficult to compare against references you don’t own because AD’s don’t have them in their display cases. In today’s online world it makes you wonder the worth of having AD’s...unless of course you want to look at OP’s and DJ’s

Of course I’m still waiting on one of these! At some point I’m going to need to decide on a limit of pieces I can keep!

Great story and photos, thanks for sharing Gary.

Out of interest, is the sd43 mk1 dial change any more than a rumour at this stage?

I’m not sure tbh, a picture has surfaced of someone trying on a SD43 at an AD and it was noted the dial included a coronet at 6 o’clock between the words “Swiss made”. I’m just curious if it’s a photoshop/wind up as no other pics have surfaced...yet! Obviously this change is very minor but as watch collectors go, we know this will be made into a big deal and in years to come they will refer to the mk1 dial for the anniversary year pieces.

Great post and even better watches! It’s nice to have the option “and which Rolex would I like to wear today?”

Beautiful.

When I joined this forum in 2008 I had 1 watch which I bought in 2005 and I was happy.

Then I realised I needed one for the week and one for the weekend. So that's 2.

Then I need one for going out. Something a bit special so got SD. So that's 3.

Oh got a super deal on a sub so that's 4.

Damn too many with a black dial, so got the polar explorer II, so that makes 5.

Jeez that GV is quirky, better get that too, so that's 6!

You see the pattern?

Nearly died during major heart surgery. Promised myself a get well gift, boooom got the LV, so that's 7! And there are 7 days in the week.

Basel 2017, OMG I need the SD43 as its near perfect, so that's 8.

Basel 2018, my dream watch, Pepsi! Still waiting...which will be 9!

Oh there's one space left in the box...might as well fill it with the new James Cameron, making 10!

I know my reasoning isnt that strong cause I'm a weak weak man haha

Vert nice set of watches. Pretty quick set-up of a collection. Glad the SD43 fits you. It's a bit big for me. At any rate huge congratulations!!!!

Haha I’m glad I’m not the only one, seems to be an infectious disease! Nice “problem” to have such a great collection. I’m thinking perhaps a 5 watch box might be a good idea with a one in one out policy...I know I’m kidding myself though, I just can’t see myself selling any of them!

It’s an interesting one really because it’s not a small watch and it weighs a fair bit! My wrist is just under 7” but the SD43 wears really well, it’s definitely got some presence and won’t fly under the radar like the 114060.

I would definitely hold on to the SD50, now more than ever. A new MK2 dial has been popping up this year making yours a one year and highly collectible run.

Have a better look, the bezel is not fully graduated. Lot of minutes missing from it.
