Daytona 116520 vs 116500 Dilemma

Good evening gents!

I currently own the 116520 and the 116500 both black dial. I also have a 16610 pre ceramic submariner date.

One of the daytona's need to go due to personal circumstances. I love them both dearly and am battling to decide which one to keep.

Thought I would ask TRF, and hopefully you guys can lend me a helping hand in deciding which one to keep.

Would appreciate your thought greatly!

The fact the 116520 is now discontinued that is the keeper to me.

See about joining another list for the 116500 or once things are on the up pay the premium as there are plenty out there.

Personally, I’d say keep the 500 as it’s hard to replace if you ever wanted it back. The 520 is easier to find but which one do you love more I guess

I have the 116520 and I would never sell it.

I’m also keen to buy your 116500 if you decide to sell. Just PM’d you.

Isn’t the ceramic quite hard to get hold of? I’d keep that as it’s harder to replace but if the other is discontinued you might want to keep that as all the little marks and scratches are yours (if you had it from new which I’m guessing you did).

I’ve owned both and I MUCH prefer the D500. Buy that’s just me!

I would keep the 116500LN purely because the ceramic bezel looks better in my eyes and should hold up better against daily wear. I much prefer the updated tachymeter scale over the previous dots and dashes.

Ceramic looks better IMO and is more durable. Neither will be collectible and secondary prices are ridiculous for both. When the 116500 was announced guys were rushing to sell their 116520s for under list price now I see people asking 17k for a watch that was mass produced for many years LOL!

I have both models too and prefer the 520, plus you can always get a new 500 in a couple years when the market stabilizes. It really comes down to personal preference as both are great pieces.

Just buy a black bezel and switch the bezels on the 116520. I decided to do that while waiting for mine to arrive. Very simple to do and under $200.

Only hard to get at retail from a AD,but on the grey there are hundreds of them for sale where most end up today flipped for profit.

Araid you will not get a authentic ceramic bezel for under $200, or do you mean put a fake ceramic insert on a genuine Rolex watch thus making it a franken watch.

Long time lurker, but first post here. For what it is worth, I was looking at the 520 and, by chance, lucked into a white faced 500 and could not be happier with the way things turned out. The dial and bezel, and the symmetry between the two, on the 500 are just fantastic.

Keep both Daytonas and sell the Submariner. That is the easiest one of the 3 to rebuy once your finances are back in balance.

I would keep the 500 because of the scratch resistant ceramic bezel

I managed to source a ceramic bezel (OEM genuine one) and swapped it with the stainless steel one on my 116520. Enjoyed it a lot for a while, then decided I preferred the classic 116520.

Back to this again now.

I’d sell the 116520. It never quite did it for me like the 16520 and 116500 do. Those are both keepers.

I would keep the Ceramic Daytona, IMHO there is too much pre-occupation about keeping watches because they are discontinued rather than which one you you actually like better.
