36 is the classic size. Timeless, absolutely timeless, and it looks great on you. But get the fluted bezel.

those types of wrist shots make the watch look bigger than it really is so i think the 40 would be fine for you, so its a matter of price and what dials you prefer i guess

for reference here is a pic of a 36 on my 6 inch wrist, so if your wrists are bigger then maybe this will give you a better idea of how they'd look

I like the 40, as long as you don’t have 5.5” wrists I think you’ll be fine. But the 36 is a classic! So either way, you can’t go wrong.

I can tell you now that your 44mm watch does not fit great on your 5.5 inch wrist I’m afraid!

Yeah not buying this. Suge Knight wore a 18238 and it looked fine. I am 6’2 with a 7.25 inch wrist and the 36mm doesn’t look small. People far bigger than me or you wear a 18238 or 118238 and it doesn’t look like a ‘lady 29’.

I agree with you Colin. Unless one has large wrists, a shiny gold DD looks better in 36mm. I've got about a 6.5" wrist and can wear my two 40mm sports models just fine but that big ol' blingy 40mm DD would be too much. That said, I could see getting a solid gold Sub!

I don,t think height or weight has anything to do with how a watch looks on your wrist, you are a tall guy and i think the 40mm looks good on you. I on the other hand am 5foot7 and i tried on the 40 and thought it was a great watch.

I tend to go “old school” on this model and say 36mm in yellow gold. I just wish Rolex would update the movement already to match with the DD40.

If you go 40, I’d say white gold is the way to go. Makes it wear smaller and then you get the best of both worlds.

Good luck!

Lol, I just had to. Joking asside I agree the closeup shots definitely make them look larger than when seen actually wearing it. As mentioned, just try them all and chose what you like. If there's any intrinsic bennifit to the 36 it's that they can be had at a fraction of the cost, if used.

40mm is just the perfect size for a watch in my opinion as it’s not too big not too small but just right!

I think either of those works. 36 is a classic and they got the new 40 just right.

Go with what YOU like. Also make sure you try a 36 with the fluted bezel, it wears larger. I am 6"2 250 lbs, 7.25 in wrist and I prefer the 36mm. I can carry the 40 but I like the 36 as I just think it looks more elegant and restrained. In my view the DD40 is like a gold sub, a different vibe if you will. In any event, that's just my personal view, go with what makes YOU comfortable. A few pics of my 5 digit 36 on my 7.25in wrist. I really find with the gold president bracelet, wrist presence is not a problem. Good luck!

We are talking about a dress watch, not a sports watch. In my opinion, the 36mm is the perfect size. My wrist is about 7.25, and I would dare anyone to tell me my watch looks girly. I have many ‘sport’ watches and would not go above 40mm, as my Subs cover a good part of my wrist. It’s not a question of money, it’s a sense of individual style and taste.

As several have pointed out, the pictures are pretty close up. Here is a shot of my DJ 36 from further away. I feel the DD wears larger.

The middle part of the case on the 40 looks thin.

I prefer the 36mm which is plenty large for a gold watch.
