Exactly this. The 40 is a LOT of gold.

Another one might be, Your Rolex and your bare feet. I mean how many pictures have we seen of bare feet in photos of watches (not just Rolex). Another one I'd love to see is, Your Rolex and your Net Worth statement.

Sorry for the thread diversion.

Still prefer the 36mm (just to keep the topic on track).

Both look good on your wrist, but if I really had to choose, 36mm, much less in your face

Both look good in your two pictures but, as others have written, pictures from farther away are going to make the 36mm look smaller. I think you could go with either one but considering your height and weight, I think the 40mm would suit you better. If you're going with yellow or even rose gold, both will be an "in your face" watch so I wouldn't worry about the 40mm appearing any more flashy than a 36mm.

Don’t listen to anyone but you. Guys with money and small
wrists love big watches. Me, I’m a 7.5 which I view as small. For a dive watch, I’m no more than 42 (seiko skx) or 40 (Rolex 5 digit). For a dress watch like the day date, I’m a 36. But really what makes you happy?

To me this is a can’t lose question. They both look great on you though if it were me, it would be a no brainer. I’d go for that sweet 36. The gold does wear bigger.

Good luck!

Post pics once you make a decision!

Your wrist appears to be a lot larger than the 5.5 inches which you claim. Would you please care to show us skeptics the actual measurement with a measuring tape around the wrist? Thanks in advance!

Looks like the 40 fits great on your wrist. But you really can’t go wrong either way.

I mean I absolutely love my SD43 and AP44 so my last worry is how my DD40 fits. Again, it’s all a personal preference. Some guys like skinny jeans that are up their ass and grab their ankles and hell, some even pull them off. To each their own. My only advice is to go try them all on and get what YOU like.

Well-said, cheers!

Both look great on you. Large or small depend on individual preference more than the height and the size of the wrist of the wearer.

If you are looking for the DD36, I would suggest you to wait for Bazel 2019. As it is possible that Rolex will upgrade the movement like the DateJust in 2018. Of course, if you don’t mind about the new movement, you should go for it.

Buy the one that you like most !

I recently bought a 36mm .
I have a 7.5inch wrist.
It’s just what your eye gets used to.

To me the 40mm looked like a “fashion watch” based on the original 36mm

Both are nice but the DD40 is more and more growing on me. However I prefer the available dials for the DD36 by far.

I’m facing the exact same dilemma. At first I was all out for the 40. After consideration, I’m leaning more towards the 36...I already have 40 mm watches in my collection. I think the 36mm, given the bracelet and weight of gold, would be enough

The DD isn't a dress watch regardless if it is dressier than a Sub or GMT. The only dress watch Rolex makes is Cellini.

Size is irrelevant to your point, Day Date can be dressed up or down, not sure about it being a "dress" watch. Cellini or others would be more fitting. One of the great benefits of owning a DD is that it can be dressed up or down regardless of it's size. If you can carry the 40, why not. Is it really less "dressy" because of it's size?

I think both look great, size wise, from the pics you posted. But, as others have said, up close pics are deceiving. I have a small wrist (6.5), but don’t have skinny forearms, so a lot of factors at play when deciding which watch looks good on your wrist....and you will get a ton of different opinions and personal preferences. With my body type, wrist/forearm size etc...I feel anywhere from 36-42 is acceptable...BUT another factor is watch case shape. For example...I’m way more comfortable, size wise, (to my eye) wearing a 4/5 digit Submariner than the 6 digit maxi-case, although I think I can pull off both just fine.
So many factors in play, along with personal preference, and public opinion. Between the two sizes you proposed...get the one you’ll enjoy looking at the most!
Pic size difference....

Looks almost too big

Same watch further away

I wax my left wrist and hand so I can wear smaller watches. At the salon I go to it’s called a Swiss wax.

When I want to wear my gmt I let my hair grow out.

Seriously though both look good. 36mm looks more classic and the 40mm looks more modern.

I’d zero in on a dial, color combo and then go from there. If you really love the deconstructed romans, your decision is made. If you want some ferrite dial, 36mm wins.

great thing about these watches is that the proportions are so good on both, I really don't think one is better than the other. Just a matter of your wrist size and watch size preference.

I personally wouldn't ever wear a 36mm watch, so I'm all about the DD40. The updated movement and bracelet are nice as well.

I prefer the 40mm, but that may be more because I prefer the 40 model you have on to the 36mm model. If you tried on more similar models of each size it would be easier to judge the size vs. the two watch choices.
