Hello from London! Need help with a GMT!

Hi team
I've owned a 70's Tudor snowflake for many years but am pretty new to Rolex and have my eyes set on a GMT master with a Pepsi bezel. All my watches are 60-80s (Navitimer 806, Seamaster300, Tudor submariner) and all original so that's what I'm looking for in the GMT. I'm looking at a 1675/0 but could be swayed by a 16700 or 16710.

I'm really struggling with spotting replacement dials and hands etc. so have come here asking for help! What's my best bet for 'keeping safe' and not buying a dud? It's too much money to be gambling...

Thanks in advance,

George

Welcome to TRF. I suggest you invest some time reading threads in the vintage forum here. You’ll get a good education.

Thanks guys. Just tried putting a link on here but I'm a newb and not allowed. Sad times.

So for example here is an oldie that looks in too good a condition to be true. Would be good to get your thoughts on:
- originality
- price (although I think you can negotiate with these guys)
- how easy it is to get an appropriate bracelet (I don't think the strap works)

Thanks!

Very old, pointed crown-guard case (good). Dial and hands replaced in recent years (not so good). Lack of bracelet not an issue although expensive to replace. I’d pass.

Thanks, that's what I had suspected. Obviously the website it's listed on is silent about these details. It sounds like Rolex love replacing parts at every opportunity...

These 1675 are hot property at the moment. Is this the model you’re looking for? I may be able to help. For a complete and correct piece (not inc box and paper) you’ll need to spend from around £9k minimum and then treble it for box and papers and all original early dial and pointed guards.

I'm not wedded to a 1675 - it would be nice, obviously, but I'd rather an all-correct later model if we're talking north of £10k. Box and papers I can live without if that's the premium!!

To be honest, a quick-set date would be quite welcome - my SM300 is a right pain!

Not sure what just happened - I replied but then it disappeared...

I'm not wedded to a 1675 - it would be amazing, but keen to keep it all original and certainly not a player at those prices and I can live without B&P if that's the premium! So I guess I'm now looking at an all-original later model which should make my quest a lot easier.

May I suggest looking at the 16750 , I've just got one and I picked it because it has the same aesthetic and feel as the 1675 , matte dial, bigger plots, plexiglass and open 6/9 datewheel.... but also the quickset date which, is a nice to have. It didn't come much easier or cheaper to be fair but I just recommend it

Dare I ask how much? Would you mind sharing a picture or two?

Thanks!

I guess my question to everyone is what's my best bet for sourcing a quality GMT? eBay is such a temptation but the price vs risk benefit is not really worth it IMO - I've done it before with models that I'm more 'expert' in and even then had mixed results. Plus anything decent I imagine you guys would be all over before me!

Having talked to John aka Springer, he's got the good stuff but is based in the US so that would cost me an extra 20% on import duties on top of already high end prices (recognising that the quality of the watches is reflected in the price).

I don't mind if it's a little rough around the edges (some call it character) but all original and a trust-worthy source are paramount to me, and ideally someone in the UK (or someone who travels here).

Any thoughts please let me know!
