Which 16570 to buy in Japan?

Hey TRF, I am currently in the land of the rising sun on vacation and there are tons of Explorers for sale in the shops here.

The watches in question are in great condition from reputable shops that guarantee authenticity.

What would you choose and why?

Number 2, wouldnt buy swiss only dial personally. 2 comes with papers

I like #3, just because I like the slight differences of the 3186. I don't know if it's worth $1600 to you though, so #2 might be a more economical choice.

The 3186 version seems to be gathering pace lately, price-wise, so I'd choose that one if you anticipate ever moving it on.

I’d save the dough and get No.2. Of course assuming their condition are about the same.

Sorry to interrupt. As per my limited knowledge about the brand, 16570 last production year was 2009/2010 season. There are no more 16570 that are produced after 2010 April ~ September????? The 216570, this 6-digit version is the replacement or successor if you like, were introduced in 2011 >April.

Based on the series (ie V111111) - Means year 2008/2009 produced. G will be 2009/2010.

No it just reminds me of service dials. They produced swiss only dials 99/00 only i think so its probably not service dial its just me i am not a fan

My thoughts exactly. I'd be torn between numbers 1 and 3. If I'm not mistaken the luminova dial was introduced somewhere around 1998 (U serial was the transition) but if this one is a Swiss only dial it will never have the beautiful patina that I love, so in the end I would choose number 3.

I would buy #2 papers, sel, lug hole case, and save >$1500.

As an owner of #3 I am biased, but I would do either #2 or #3 based on;

If you can afford it NOW no problem, go with #3 as it will be the one to gain/retain value the most and has the most modern features that series ever had.

If you cannot, and you want to save some $, and are mentally OK with having no engraving, the previous movement, etc - there is virtually no functional difference less the positive addition of lug holes so go with this one in that case....

I would, however, try to get #3 in the high $5000's instead of low $6000's. I just got an M serial w/ 3186 state-side for $4800 with box.

I recently purchased an "early" 3186 (2008 production) 16570 in the U.S., so would go w/#3, but I wouldn't pay the asking price unless it had full papers.

Prob was ‘sold in 2012’ rather than ‘2012 production’

I will argue that what you saw in C24 as the watch was purchased in the year 2012. But the watch, probably a “G” series was manufactured or produced in 2010/2011 season.

I further believe some shops has watches “stuck” in thier inventory or shelves. I actually came across a “G” series NOS (New Old Stock) just a couple of years ago, in Hong Kong.

Do take note that 216570, the 42MM version of the Rolex Explorer II was introduced or launched in 2011. So is the caliber 3187 which is used for this watch.

Finally, I would definitely trust oysterworld.de rather than the sellers (especially) from C24.

I guess a 2011 model, g or random serial number, with a nice thin frame dial, very rare.

Price itself is not the issue, I honestly would be happy with any of the three. I just don’t want to overpay for a particular model.

Going to make a purchase tomorrow morning. If I can bring the price down on the 3186 I will purchase, If not #2 it is. I’ll keep you guys posted, thanks for the input.
