Genuine dial?

Any ideas if this was a genuine dial available in the early 1980s? I quite like it as it’s a little funky but I’m not sure whether it’s an aftermarket dial

Looks like a blue dial with unusual decay. Normally that kind of effect only happens around the lume plots on blue dials from that era, not across the whole dial. I'm sure one of the vintage dealers could give you an attractively exotic name for it.

Thankyou. Seller is referring to it as “granite”. I thought it looked like flake too but as there was so much, and in an interesting pattern, I hoped I was wrong and it was in fact a rare dial.

It looks quite nice, though, whatever it is.

In fact... if it is flake the lettering must have been reapplied right? Would that not also have flaked as I assume it is applied on top of the blue?

That's a pretty cool effect. I wouldn't mind that dial on my own watch.

You’re not helping authenticate here guys!? At this rate I will be buying it!

My worry is that if it is flake then that is a lot...

I don't think it's flaking...just discolouring. I don't doubt the authenticity of the dial.

Actually if you google images and type 1982 Rolex 16014 blue dial suede strap you will see a couple of them.

Three different websites, two different straps, but the same pattern on the dial. Still Really Cool!

I think they are all the same watch as it’s exactly the same pattern (if it is patina then that would be impossible) and 7.48mm serial. Slightly different colour strap though in some pics. Makes me wonder why it seems to be up for sale again now though
