5960 or 5980

Guys, seeking opinion here

I love Patek flyback chronograph design (it’s love it or hate it). Anyway I have been after 5980/1ar two tones, but as we all know it’s almost impossible to get it or pay a premium at grey markets

Anyway I came across 5960 and only realised it comes with the same movement but also with annual calendar! Literally same price and it’s available to almost every AD I walked in.

5980 - love the design, but it’s at peak and I don’t know how the future will hold. It may keep go up.

5980/1ar comes with bracelet, but I believe it’s not changeable???

5960 - white gold with blue dial. Like it, but it’s a bit thick as a dress watch.. I don’t know how it will look on other straps? Or possible to put on a bracelet?

For AC, I need to have it on a watch winder all the time? And the service cost is more expensive than 5980?

5980 for sure. Goes well with everything. Honestly!

I have a 5960 as well... Not sure if it's because I havent worn it enough but the strap irritates the bejezus out of me. I got it for 23% off (from a gray), so you can definitely ask for a discount on this model if you go to your local AD.

I have a 5960R-011. I personally quite like it as my dress watch with its classic warm gold and black leather strap despite the chronograph and sub dial, I think it's quite elegant.

I have a pretty constrained collection and for me personally, I think that a 5980 would be a bit redundant with my AP Royal Oak so I opted for something aesthetically different. If I didn't have a nautilus or AP RO, maybe it would be different.

As far as my collection goes now, the 5960R is one of my prized watches. It feels like a lot of bang for buck. PP, Chrono, Day-night, Power Reserve, Annual Calendar. So that's my vote. Obviously have to disclose my ownership bias though :P

As to needing a winder, I don't personally use one and just manually reset the date if I'm wearing it out. I might consider a winder. It's just that my daily life is not very dress-demanding so I would only wear it to events whilst other watches would be more daily wearers and stay wound automatically.

Thanks! Any suggestion for 5960G strap?

For some reason, I am not a big fan of the original calf leather strap.. It kind puts me off

Is the AR that hard to get? I should think a few months wait only.

Definitely 5980. And AR at retail is very good value. Should not be that hard to find as TT
is not that much in demand.

I don’t like the shape of the 5960. Too round.

That’s what I thought, AR should be “easier” to get.. but all the ADs I been to (I am based in Australia) implying all Nautilus models are for to VIP only. Customers without good purchasing history will literally have no chance of getting it!!

I think it all depends on the region. In the UK 5980/1AR is not hard to get. Few months ago Patek Salon in London had one is stock.

5960g on alligator. The service cost will be the same for both models - service prices are be listed on the Patek website in the UK at least. I’m not a fan of the AR, but I am considering the 5980/1R. I have a 5960P and it is amazing. I agree that the calf skin strap on the 5960 should be alligator. I pulled the trigger on a 5524 recently and got the AD to throw in an alligator strap. Problem solved.

5980 hands down. The AR looks SIGNIFICANTLY better in person, the all blue dial is idyllic.
