Hope not.
Don’t get the Hodinkee hype, seems like some brands are willing to make a quick buck at the expense of their reputation.

Patek doesn’t need to debase themselves to sell a few watches.

It’s not a move that makes sense for a brand like Patek. This is like when people speculate Rolex is going to collaborate with supreme.
Better chance Jennifer Lawrence decides to collaborate with me.

Vacheron did it didn’t they? In this day and age it may make sense.

hipsters with beards, sweaters and round glasses isnt Patek's target demo... on the other hand they like small watches in the 37mm range over there so its not out of the question
if they do it, im calling a 35mm 5522 with hodinkee branding on the back. Small enough to make the Hodinkee guys happy and offbeat enough of a reference (within the Patek calalogue) to maintain obscure credibility. Plus it also looks sweet with flannel

Agreed. Just look at Vacheron's FiftySix collection, with its outsourced movement and inferior finishing, they have little hesitation as of late to compromise the brand's prestige for the sake of sales.
I'm not sure why you would want Patek associated with Hodinkee. Personally, I find that as Hodinkee continues to weigh more heavily on a commerce-driven business model, the quality of their content suffers. I'm curious to see what effect this has on the brand long-term, but either way, I would not want Patek tied to it. |

Have you seen the quality of their content declining? I’ve been wondering about this for a while. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I personally thought their recent H10 celebration was amazing
The talks were really interesting and were streamed for everyone to see Great content Yes they are commercial but they make no bones about that I think they are very relevant still today Julian |

I heard MVMT wants to do a collab with Patek. To help sell Patek to Millenials.

I like hodinkee as well and they are certainly the powerhouse in the niche of horological online media. I just don’t think Patek is looking for new collaborations and if they were it would probably be a jeweler they have been doing business with for decades.

In general, I like Hodinkee for what they are, a cursory view of a world with depth. I enjoyed the H10 event, many great guest speakers. My comment was directed toward their regular content. There is clearly a conflict of interest between the products they sell and the media they produce. Of course they're not the first to do this - Men's Health slings supplements, The Rake peddles apparel and gifts, etc. Unlike these other brands though, Hodinkee is indeed a powerhouse of their respective field, and so much so, that their opinion is taken by many as this authoritative be-all-end-all. I do believe the content is suffering. Sure, the pocket pics are great and the video editing is smooth. But it doesn't take much browsing on the site to get a sense of just how much the content they produce, and how they choose to produce it, is influenced by what they sell. When was the last time you read a critical review on the site, or better yet, a balanced one? In addition, many of the articles read like something I would expect to find on a lifestyle website, not the detail-rich world of watches. When opinion sells like theirs does, I find myself hungrier for more fair and compelling journalism, I can still remember a time when I felt they offered that. |

i like them too. I don't like when they get into reviewing or their thoughts on watches though (minus Jack as i like everything he has to say about watches). Generally i am no where near on the same map as them though. I appreciate the access they get and the watch news

Given the nature of Hodinkee's business, I would always be somewhat sceptical of a marketing or promotion effort whenever there is a "watch review" or "3 on 3". The advertiser always win ;)

However i guess you don't get the paid content in the first place without being at least somewhat complimentary so yeah its a slippery slope. I don't think they lie and are objective on what they want to focus on but they also leave out some of the cons.

HODINKEE deserves a lot of credit for the burgeoning watch hobby, but it makes little sense to pair their relative infancy to a century-old brand that clearly has no problem selling watches. For the car buffs in the audience, it would be like Ferrari teaming up with Doug Demuro.
