Inherited Rolex

I recently inherited a GMT Master II from my grandfather. I went to an AD to authenticate the watch and they said everything checks out. They gave me the model # 16700 and the serial # R663698. How do I use these numbers to do further research?
Also what condition is the watch in? Would you gentlemen and women recomend me service the timepiece?
Thank you!
JXD

The first thing I would do is remove the serial number from your post.

+1 there... then, holler at the Rolex Service Center and get it serviced. Afterwards, it will run like new. Depending on your taste, you can tell them not to replace\refinish the bezel and case

Yes your right. The “3” in the date wheel looks odd.

They are giving you bogus information, or you are spoofing the Forum.

A 16700 is a GMT Master, and your dial says GMT Master II - two different watches. Crown on the crystal didn't come around until after 2000.

R serials were originally seen in 1987. If it is an original GMT Master II, have it cleaned up a bit and wear it.

Not only that Larry, I see no lug holes on that case so couldn’t be R vintage.

A clean R s/n would look like this one:

Yep, No Coronet OR Bar Underline. Fake Crown or the Coronet Was Polished Into Oblivion, which I Doubt because the rest of the watch isn't recently polished.

After another quick look, I'm gonna say that the hand-stack is wrong and the plots look too big..

I'm calling fake barring further information.

I noticed threads like this, ie 'inherited a Rolex from my grandfather/Aunt etc', without accompanied reasonable feel-good stories behind the watch, usually comes from members with a couple of posts.

It's either çoincidence or just trying to fish for ...

It is my humble judgement that the whole watch is 100% fake.

I love it as is. You know the pedigree and that is the coolest part. I’d wear as is and if asked about condition, tell everyone it was G-fathers.

If you chose to service and replace crystal/bezel, I’d save original. Also be prepared to have Lume updates by RSC.

Enjoy that great piece!

No lug holes, incorrect handstack, fake crystal for sure, unsigned crown, date wheel wrong, lume way to white for supposed vintage.

If true, I'm sorry for you loss, but this piece is either highly frankensteined, or completely fake.

Maybe you got lucky and theres an original movement inside. Other than that it's frankenwatch at best

/edit oh, the date font is way off, so the movement is probably fake too. Nothing fits in this watch. It should end up in trash

Glad others stepped in. Nothing looked genuine on this piece.
R serial number versus a much later incorrect LEC!

FAKE
