Its stayed around so long because i really do love it even if its on the small side of what i prefer. Who knows i may keep it but i have way too many watches so some spring cleaning will be in order at some point. Never intended to end up with way more than i can reasonably wear as my one in, one out policy lapsed a while ago

I much prefer getting rid of non hot watches though as i hate the stigma even if i kept it 1.5 years.

Perfectly understandable regarding the the two Nautilus.

There is nothing wrong with getting rid of a hot watch after 1.5 years.

Anything on your mind to replace it? I was seriously looking at a Zeitwerk but I found it a bit fiddly with the time adjustment which is slow. Looking at a Dato now as well but the 39mm one.

The 5740G is also a beautiful watch but IMO not worth 80K more than this beast. Wear her in good health!
As you said, the watch is wife material. Best Nauti for me in the line - the 5990 was toast when this one came in.

My parents taught me that whining gets you nowhere, but it sure helped in this case. I'm sure the TRF member who helped me out was sick of reading my whining and it sure paid off.

If you're not wearing it often, then no point in hoarding just because. Watches are meant to be worn. The moment you think of selling, it might as well be toast in my experience. As much as I love the piece and wear it very often, different strokes for different folks, I know you far prefer the 5990, which I found to be a bit thick for my liking.

I would definitively say that this would be my one and only if I had to choose. Would be fine with dumping all my Rolexes and having an Apple Watch or G-Shock for those sticky situation. It just wears so well with any attire, iconic and prestigious, yet flies under the radar.

.
sitting tight for now. I literally LOL'd at the WF spread. $20k USD to them. Sorry but im not letting it go below retail. May do it privately, but probably not. I would rather leave it in the safe and hoard it for that. Plus the most likely potential replacement i still cant source anyway.

Let us know if you get quotes from Watchclub, Blowers and Watchcentre be interested to know if they are all in line now.

i may try one of the other three after the new year, but probably not worth the bother as they seem to move in lockstep. I'm in no rush, and i suspect they are squeezing sellers at christmas who may have to sell.

Im totally ok with a dealer making money and me getting convenience of selling to a known person but considering they are selling a 5 year old one at about £44k and would obviously list mine higher, the spread is just silly to offer south of 30 on one with a factory warranty still.

I was looking at the Zeitwerk too, recently WOS had both RG and WG models as well as RG striking time and a Platinum Datograph.

Previously they had offered me 20% off a Datograph but now they are not willing to budge on the price.

South of £ 30K for a 5712A is way too low, did they offer you that recently? I have a friend who is a senior purchaser at WF, around a month ago she told me they offer above MSRP for 5711A, 5712A and 5167A.

I don't know much about Watchclub or Watchcentre but Blowers offer below retail for almost everything apart from 5711 blue and 5131

yesterday and yes 1.5k GBP below retail

they list "retail" at 25k on the 5 year old one they have. Its gotten a lot less professional around there lately though so as far as they are concerned they probably think the did offer above retail

I could sell it on craigslist in 10 minutes for more... just not into the hassle of a private sale at this point though

That is way too low, they could be squeezing out the sellers during December and January.

that was my initial thought and to make the books look good before the year ends... Also maybe they ran out of allowance money from Richemont

Ive always been OK with them in the past. Ive sold for less than i could get myself but the convenience of doing it that way made it ok and it was was fair IMO. I have always figured out the spread before hand and while big it was not what i would deem excessive. Honestly i would have rather they just said they were not buying as its borderline insulting to lowball a customer who has sold them around 10 watches (all at a loss BTW but that is "normal")

Regent St offered me 10% off the ZW ST last year and that was a struggle, retail was around £90k I remember, thought I'd never want to buy from them. For the 39mm I'd probably have to fly to Germany, that's where they all seem to be.

maybe. trying to avoid moving with my entire collection at once as that has the potential to be an import nightmare so thinning it out prior is ideal. If i go back on another house hunting trip prior, ill probably bring it though and see. either that or at least move the collection a few at a time and just get it repositioned. My collection isnt even that massive compared to some guys here but still it is just weird to move them all at once.

Understandable. Happy to pay you retail and send a label

In all seriousness I’d probably put them all in a watch roll and carry on and the boxes in the mail.

It’s great you are enjoying it as much as hoped, but I’m not surprised, this watch really is a work of art. It’s definitely my favourite Nautilus and one of my favourite Patek Philippes. Amazing watch.

Well, I just passed the one year mark. In total I've probably worn the watch about 200 times in the last 365 days. Many watches have come and gone in the last 12 months, but this one stands strong.

I stand by my comments in the OP. It is still my grail watch and I am very happy to have it. The magic of it has not worn off one bit since it arrived a year ago. Even though it's picked up some more marks, it does not detract from the watch for me. It has held up reasonably well with some wrist awareness, but there are definitely quite a few hairlines on the polished bits that are visible in strong line.

Of course, prices for this one have just gotten crazier in the last few months. I would be fine with not buying one at these prices. I love the watch, but it still is not a $80K watch to me. It somewhat bothers me that a SS Nautilus has now become a status symbol first, and watch second. I've gotten a few comments from strangers lately while wearing this piece, while I would prefer it to be under the radar.
