Sad... Nautilus sent to Switzerland

It was just a couple of months ago when I got the call for my 5712. After such a long wait, it was finally my turn. I was super excited as I was finally able to get my hands on my first Nautilus.

After just a month or so, I started noticing a bit of rust on the bracelet link, usually on the side and exactly where the pins connect one link to another. I feared my case would be similar to one I had earlier read from a fellow member. I used a soft fabric to scratch it out but this was just a temporary fix as the rust would resurface not long after.

It happened a third time and I couldn’t stand it. I took it back to the AD and they were shocked. They had never seen this before and promised to follow up with the service center. I knew once I left the watch it would not come back to my hands in 2-3 months as I know service takes this long for Patek.

It has been a month and I gave the AD a call thinking it wouldn’t hurt to check on the status of the watch. I wasn’t expecting it would take 2-4 months as the watch was not sent back to service the movement. I just wanted them to sort out the bracelet issue, maybe a simple replacement and I would have been satisfied. However, the AD said they would follow up the following day and would give me a call back.

They called me back this afternoon and informed me that my watch had already been sent back to Switzerland as the service center would not entertain my case, they refused to service it and decided to send it back straight away. I absolutely have no idea what they’ll be doing but I did state to my AD I would not want my watch to be polished, rather to have them find the root of the problem and see if there’s another fix to it.

Now it’s gonna be 2-4 months until I get my watch back. I know... first world problems, but paying such for such an expensive watch makes you think why this would happen. Never had such experience with stainless steel rusting on any of my other watches from all other brands.

Wow, I've also never experienced (or heard of) rust appearing on a bracelet. Sounds like a frustrating process

I cannot believe they didn’t just replace the bracelet right away with a huge apology letter. What a massive disappointment in Patek.

I'm sorry this has happened to you. I will continue to follow developments. Please, report the complaint process on an ongoing basis. Cheer up, Patek will definitely be up to the task. The expectation can be frustrating, and rusting shouldn't happen with this manufacturer.

I remember another thread that a member had a similar issue but I don't remember the outcome. PP makes great watches but the little things like service times and cost have always prevented me from ownership. I believe you are the exception and not the rule but that does not make it any easier. I hope it gets sorted out as soon as possible. Please keep us posted.

I hope they fast track this for you and would be tempted to email Geneva directly and ask if possible to just get replacement bracelet and sent back ASAP.

This is indeed sad. I hope they fix it ASAP. To be honest they should just give you another watch. No questions asked.

This is crazy. How can Patek not replace the bracelet? Shame on them!

Also happened to the 5711 of a friend of mine. The filled end side of where the pins goes in were rusting from underneath in 2 spots. Watch was a Feb 2020 watch.

The cheaper and inferior 316L steel should not be used in a watch like PP. PP should be upgrading to 904L.

Or have better QC in sourcing steel.

Not correct. 316 stainless steel has equivalent resistance to rusting from moisture and mild acids as compared to 904. 904 has better resistance to very strong acids (e.g. sulfuric acid) in industrial applications and takes a higher polish.

I am surprised too that they wouldn’t just replace bracelet. Sorry it happen OP. I can’t imagine just getting a watch and then it’s sent to service for a long time.

OP sorry for your situation, hope you get watch back soon.

Out of curiosity how long was your wait to "get the call"?

I've got the PF itch and am scared to find out how long - might have to go gray.

Sounds like poor service, I'd hunt around for a way to get a message directly to Thierry or another big wig, this is not good publicity for them, altho maybe they are now too popular to care.

Rust on a 2020 Patek...sounds like whoever is on the quality control isn’t doing a good job...especially if this isn’t the first time it has occurred.

Yeah, I suspect he doesn't any more, they are Goldman Sachs now, too big to fail or care.

Wow, I’m surprised by all the feedback and thankful to you all for your good wishes. I gave the service center a call yesterday just to follow up. I wanted to hear from them personally as opposed to the relay message from the AD.

The SC was very apologetic and explained the reason why they had to send it back to Switzerland. They view this as something serious and needed to be sent back in order for them to be aware of the issue as well as provide them with the customer feedback.

They do not have a timeline for this, however they said they would do their best to make it right and send it back. Based on their views, they will most likely replace the bracelet for me as work cannot be done on the bracelet if it is rusty.

In the meantime, I guess all I can do is sit tight and let time pass by slllooowwwllllyyyy haha...

On the bright side, the 5167a can scratch my itch as well as my JLC. Will continue to keep you guys posted as soon as I hear something.

The fact that they aren’t just immediately overnighting you a new watch shows how little they value your time. This thread alone will cost them more than it would have to make you believe they stand behind their products.

They want to have a science experiment fine but they can do that on their own time

I'm curious as to why they couldn't just send the bracelet back and you keep the watch, especially if there's no issues of authenticity. Seems overkill to send the watch for a bracelet fix. Good luck with it.
