Double "Oh" October

I've had this plan since I picked up the Bond watch a few weeks back...

I haven't talked about it much, if at all the past year, but God called my Dad home last November 15th after a whirlwind 11 months. Having been diagnosed with Melanoma, which turned into mets, it was a heart wrenching journey to say the least. I'll spare the details...

We had many "traditions," but I would put our tradition of watching movies together up there in the top 5...my favorites of which were both the Indiana Jones movies (we'd watch Last Crusade every NYE) and, of course, James Bond.

It took weeks last year and multiple ADs, but I had this crazy idea to source an updated original submariner after his first brain surgery. That way as long as he wore it, it would never stop, and it'd give him something to work towards...a symbol of movement and life. I was blessed to be able to get one in my hometown of Milwaukee, and the look on his face when he opened the box will forever be burned into my memory. I'm very grateful that moment was during a trip to Boppa's house with my son, who will get the watch when he gets married.

Long story short, I've had the watch for just about 11 months now, but it's extremely hard for me to wear. My original plan was for him (my Dad) to wear it, I dunno, for a few decades, then pass it on to me briefly, then my son. With the exception of a trip I to Maui I bought for his retirement, I just haven't been able to wear it. Its initial purpose wasn't for me but as an heirloom passed down from generation to generation.

So, imagine my surprise when I happened into my local Omega AD and saw the new NTTD Bond watch, just sitting in the case...on my birthday. I've totally "Bonded" with this watch the past month and feel like it may be the best GADA ever. My original plan, in honor of my Dad's birthday this month, was to showcase its versatility, wear it everyday, and take you all along on the journey. I still plan on doing that, but there may be some mid-day switches along the way as I've been blessed to pick up a few other pieces I've taken a liking to as well (and have at least one more on the way).

So, without further ado, let's begin Double "0" October, a month to be filled with gratuitous NTTD watch porn.

That's a great story and a really nice thing you did for him. I also lost my father to cancer and watching his decline was probably the toughest thing I've had to witness in my life. Glad you are honoring him in your own way

This was a very moving story ❤️. It definitely brought a tear. My heart goes out to you! Life is so fragile and short. All we know for certain is that we are all here together. These types of memories and symbolic purchases are so special and give us all a way to still be close to those we love/miss, whether they are still here or unfortunately not. This is one reason I love watches in particular - time is obviously so symbolic. Watches are our engagement “rings”, our anniversary gifts, our parents birthday gifts, will be handed down, etc etc etc Thank you for sharing this beautiful story, and I’m so sorry for your loss. My he be truly happy on the other side. Awesome watch too! The nttd is beautiful! Congratulations! �� :)

I have a question. I just visit my Omega AD and separate the NTTD watch with the mesh bracelet. Before pull the trigger I want to know if that kind of watch (James Bond Seamasters) maintains its value? Should I buy it or should I put my name in the Submariner Rolex list? Thank you!

any omega most likely wont "hold value" like a rolex, but what does mean really?

you must not like the omega enough to buy and wear it and not worry about "what its worth"

the value for me is enjoying the beauty and quality of whatever is on my wrist and getting joy and excitement from seeing my small collection together and being able to choose each day

the market fluctuations and value can change week to week does that mean im supposed to see and treat a hulk differently now than i did a couple months ago?

im not trying to be rude, i just think its fascinating how we all look at this differently, i get excited for the watch and its beauty and im more concerned with how itll be running years down the road and not about what it might be worth years down the road

I would not count on this watch holding its value at all. If that is a concern to you stick with Rolex. Expensive Omega limited watches like this rarely keep their value (Snoopy being a notable exception) and usually can be found at a steep discount not long after.

As another poster said buy the watch you like and want to wear. But it sounds like holding its value is important to you. If so my suggestion would be to avoid this watch or wait six months or so and buy second hand.

Very sorry for the loss of your father. Your new watch seems to be a fitting tribute to your time together and shared interest. Very nice photos. That lume shot puts most other diver lume shots I’ve seen to shame. Hopefully it gives you many years of enjoyment and reminds you of better days with your father.
