New Omega Speedmaster Professional cal3861

Thoughts on the new speedy with cal 3861?
There are some visual changes as well including bracelet, flatter pushers, step subdials.

Found this on page 10 of this thread. https://www.watchuseek.com/threads/o...108417/page-10

There's a post with a link to a PDF product sheet. Looks like it's only a $500 increase to the MSRP for both the sapphire and hesalite versions (assuming the prices are in US $$). If that's the case this is a win-win. The 3861 is an excellent upgrade. The bezel also went back to the DON. Pushers and crown look easier to access as well. Wondering if the bracelet has micro adjustments.

The increase is 20% in CHF. I think the price quoted on the sheet is pre VAT. I like the fact that the watch is nearly 1mm thinner which makes it more wearable. I'm not a huge fan of that bracelet design so I'm hoping the Apollo 11 50th flat link will work on this model.

It should. The case looks the same as the Apollo 11 And has the ridge in the same place. I’m hoping the same

I am really liking he spear shaped chrono hand and larger pushers. Also hoping that the crown is easier to wind and that the clasp has quick adjustment.

New Omega Speedmaster Professional cal3861

Seems that no quick adjustment on the clasp
Overall I like the new Speedy but I will keep my 1861
I like the bracelet but not sure will fit to the current speedy...
Maybe in the future I would add the new sapphire but I’m on the Snoopy list due in Feb - March 2021 so don’t know if make any sense to go for the new one

Ok. I can deal with a 20% price increase. This will be my Speedy should I don't get the call for the Snoopy-50. Since it will be readily available (and probably discounted) I will wait a while before buying one.

If you wait, you’ll like get a discount on the new regular speedy.

Yes, I’d expect so but discounts are getting more difficult on omega currently. What does interest me, and obvs you had an option, is what this does to sales of the 321.

The new speedy has many of the best pieces for half the price. An extra £6k is a lot to spend for straight lugs, a 321 movement and a ceramic bezel.

Some of the best bits like step dial (love these) and applied logo you can have for far less now....

I'm confused as to why Omega insists on the variety of bracelets across different versions of the Speedmaster Pro. I think it would make more sense if Omega were to simply choose the "best" bracelet (flat-link tapering to 16mm at the clasp with micro-adjustment, please) and install it on all of them. End-links would be different for different case designs, but that makes more sense to me than completely different bracelets.

I think this would simplify and reduce the cost of production, and it could help to solidify the watch's identity.

Yes, I agree - but I suspect the flat links and ceramic bezels are being allocated to the ‘special editions’ going forward.

Can you imagine if they’d released this with the same flat link as the Apollo and a ceramic bezel.

They’d have cannibalised sales of the 321 near enough.

So I agree with you, but also recognise why they have tried to differentiate.

I love it!! The new movement is a huge upgrade: incredible accuracy, antimagnetic, coaxial escapement, and hacking movement...

Thinner case and tapered bracelet seal the deal for me.

Can't wait to get one. Great job Omega!!

I am in the minority here, but I actually like the old bracelet better, I really don’t like the taper, I don’t mind a slight taper, but this new one seems quite stark. And what’s the deal with that anyway? I think the watch looks more symmetrical when the bracelet is the same general size all the way around.

Also, will this be the moonwatch for many years to come, or is this the start of them making tweaks more often? I mean they could have made these changes years ago. Why now?

It’s funny how this is a taste of personal preference. I absolutely cannot stand the non-tapered bracelets; to me, they look and wear so “chunky.” (Again, subjectively). So the bracelet taper of 20/16 mm is welcome from my perspective.

But this will be a to each their own thing.

I like the wider spacing of the indices in the sub-minute track.

Ask a non WIS person what they think of the new Speedy Pro or Sub and the answer will be "what's the difference between the old and new?"

There seems to be a ton of subtle, but well thought out updates, the guys over at Omega Forums are already digging deep. Really got to respect Omega for what they did here, many fan favorites and some complaints (protruding case back) found consideration. To me, this is a community watch and I can’t wait (despite not being overly in love with the bracelet, seems to be Apollo 11 50th in steel).

I like the current bracelet design and comfort although it would be nice to have something similar to Rolex Easylink extension.

From the picture it seems that Omega has gone from solid end links to hollow end links. Opposite what Rolex did.
