AP Day Date 25572 & Moon Phase 25594 Literature

Hi TRF friends,

I am about to take a dive into the world of AP and started doing some research on the references Day Date 25572 and Moon Phase 25594. Is there any literature on the history of these two references available anywhere? Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.

A dealer near me has a day-date and I've been curious about these as well. I've heard the day-date nicknamed 'The Owl' for the position of the sundials. If you find out anything, I'd love to hear more as well. Good luck

Not much on these models at all. Weren't, and still aren't very popular as they are pretty rare and with the 36mm, not very popular among modern collectors. but beautiful watches.

I bought a white dial & steel case/bracelet 25594st two years ago. I've been searching a lot regarding the history of this reference also, didn't find much around on the Internet.

I've identified 3 generations for the 25594.
Gen1 : features a vintage logo + long&thin hours index,
Gen2 : features the modern logo + the long&thin hours index,
Gen3 : features the modern logo + short&bold hours index.

Mine is from the latest generation. It's not an AP movement inside.
Perfect on a thin 16,5cm wrist.

It seems that the Gen3 are a little bit more expansive (still low thought!) than the previous Generations...

I can't attach a picture of mine here, maybe later when I'll have enough messages published.

I would be glad to read & discover more about the 25594. Especially about the production dates of the 3 generations :)

I just recently bought an white dial SS 25594st (from late 90s) and it's a beautiful watch and works perfectly on my thin wrist (~16cm). I also did some research on the watch, and it seems that there are quite a lot of differences especially with the dials and the subdial fonts between generations.

Some of the subdial fonts are Serif and others Sans-Serif, also I've noticed the placement of AP logo to differ a bit.

Here are some additional details I've noticed between the generations:

Gen1 : features a vintage logo + long&thin hours index,

Sans-Serif text subdials (THU, FRI etc)
vintage Petite Tapisserie

Gen2 : features the modern logo + the long&thin hours index,

Serif text on subdials
vintage Petite Tapisserie

Gen3 : features the modern logo + short&bold hours index.

Serif text on subdials
Grande tapisserie (Logo imprinting done on a flat area)

Interestingly I've seen two versions of the Gen3, one where the Moon Phase area is like a circular subdial with flat area (on which Automatic is imprinted) and another where the Moon Phase area is decorated with the tapisserie pattern with the Automatic imprinted on the pattern.

My watch is from the first group. I like how it is more modern (to my eye) with the Sans-Serif font than the later generations.

There are actually two "gen 1" categories, I have the earliest version 25594st which AP told me was manufactured in 1984 (sub 400 no letter SN) - mine does not have lume on markers. The later gen 1 does have lume on hour markers.

My friend bought a later version of this in YG with roman numerals. The movement in mine was a caliber 2124 which AP recently replaced with a more modern 2325

Any idea on the price for this model now?

My local seller just post this one Day Date Moonphase in Blue dial, E serial, year 2007 for around $14,000

Come with box and paper. I guess it s the 3rd gen where the Moon Phase area is decorated with the tapisserie pattern with the Automatic imprinted on the pattern as stated above.

What should I carefully look for on this model and beware of?

I'm in the state will pull the trigger on the Rolex Batman Jubilee 126710BLNR for $13,500 grey market and this one just come out of the blue really interest me.

14k is a pretty good price. the blue dials for these also trade at a premium. white can be bought from ~10k-13k depending on condition.just be aware that servicing the movement will be ~US$1k, and polishing if you choose to will be another ~US$1k with AP.

I am also interested in this model. I actually do like the white dials.

I noticed the clasps vary depending on the year. I like the look of the AP logo clasps.

on closer inspection the dial around the word Automatic looks blemished. in the first photo

Is that watch located in Bangkok? If so, you will have to pay the import tax and additional sale tax at your city also.

It's more hassle to purchase something overseas. It is easier if you already on vacation on that particular location and see the real thing and make a decision.

I know it’s an older thread but I was thinking about something. As I’m only seeing second-hand 25572ST watches with a cream dial with varying degrees of ‘yellowness’; was the dial initially white? Or was it already cream when brand new?
