Sky Dweller

Will a white sky dweller hold its value like the sport watches? I know they’re selling for over MSRP in the grey market but wondering people’s thoughts on value retention and how they categorize them. Agree that it doesn’t matter if you love the watch, but I would rather not take a bath on it if I decide to trade it!

Thanks!

Depends what you call take a bath, but I’d expect to maybe lose 5-10% or so if you flipped to a grey assuming you are buying at rrp maybe.

I'm a huge fan of the SS Sky Dweller especially with the white dial - it's almost pearl white. Such a clean and classy look.

Just buy it. Life is too short.

##edit## I see from your sig you already have : )

I have the same question and prefer the white dial too. Blue I know will hold it’s value, but will white?

Blue dial is the most sought after and hardest to obtain, followed by black and then white. It's personal choice if you like white get it.
I don't see you losing anything.

Great question - hence starting this thread. I keep going back and fourth! Still haven't worn it and have it listed for sale.

You will lose money selling it to a reseller. 99% don’t have the reputation to sell it themselves and get the market price

I bought the white in January, unsure I’d like it until I saw it. It’s a stunner. The more I wear, the more I like it.

Try it out a while.

Actually that pic is from the AD - he sent me it before I took shipment of the watch. The hang tags have never been removed.

Here we go again...

1. Buy “hot” reference.
2. Start thread on said Watch to include ROI
3. List in FOR SALE section

its only $500 above retail+ sales tax. I would be shocked if OP even makes $500. Im betting a loss.

I don’t think you will lose if you pay rrp - they are still listed at levels above rrp

It depends on what you pay and how the market moves for the Sky Dweller. Do the best you can on the price and wear and enjoy the watch. If it is still a concern why not approach it as I can never sell this watch and wear it for the rest of my life. If you still want it, get it. But if not, pass and find a watch that you can feel that way about.

No. You absolutely cannot sell yours for what the big TS can sell for. Market price does not apply to a one off seller. Why in the world would anyone buy at similar prices as people who are known and trusted. Imo it needs to be 20%less than market

Pretty sure discussing a watch that is for sale outside of the sales forum is a violation of forum rules.

OP: if you're selling this watch, then sell it. But having a thread about it in the General Discussion area...not cool.

It sounds like you're more in love with the opportunity of buying the watch than the watch itself. If you decide to sell it down the road, you won't "take a bath" but I also wouldn't count on recouping the full amount either.

For what it's worth, the white dial SkyD is my favorite of the SS options. I had the opportunity to pick one up almost a year ago now and only passed on it because the watch looks a bit big on my wrist (I'm around 6.75 wrist size and wouldn't feel comfortable with anything larger looking than a GMT or Sub).

not what its about to me. IMO its pointing out that you are not making money on these types of flips, so dont bother and leave the watch at the AD for someone who wants it.

I don't think it will. I bought a Sky Dweller blue dial at retail and tried to love it for 8 months. The complication is really cool and the way the second time zone is displayed is also very innovate... however I just did not love it. The size is one thing... its super thick and while comfortable it is just a large dressyish watch that is also sportyish. However, it shines at neither being a dress or sports watch... but some strange hybrid. The other issue is the bezel... while the flutted bezel is beautiful its just not my thing. I found myself forcing myself to wear it over my GMT, Sub, and explorer II. I thought a long time before I let it go and I realized I only bought it because it was "hard to get" and realized it didn't have a place in my collection based solely on the merits of the watch... therefore I let it go to a new home and hopefully they appreciate it for what it is rather than because it is "hard to get." In it's place I want to one day add a Daytona and/or a SS BLRO, and/or a PM sports piece such as yellow gold blue sub.

I think a lot of the demand for the skydweller is because its a hard to get watch and maybe value retention will remain strong for years if this charade keeps on going and its availability is scarce... however I do think demand will wane because most of the attention (and rightfully so) goes to sports models and with that hype going down so will the asking prices on the grey market... or hell I could be wrong (it happens from time to time)
I figured if I regretted selling my SS down the line I could easily pick up a TT black or white dial down the line and get better value for price but right now I'm not missing it at all.

Thank you for the insightful post.

I agree that it is more of a hybrid watch. Also, doesn't seem like something I could wear as a daily.
