Would you take to Water Park?

I am currently on vacation with my family and we are taking the kids to a water park tomorrow. I really don’t want to leave our watches at the hotel for the day. It’s not that I don’t trust the hotel I just don’t trust anyone. How many would just wear your watches to the water park. I have a Sub-C date and my wife has a TT datejust. How worried would you be about banging it around on all the rides for the day. Thanks for the input.

No safe in the hotel room?

I know we joke a lot around here about silly "threats" to our durable tool watches, but I'd personally leave behind my watch if I was going on water-park rides. Last thing you need is banging the watch against a plastic tube the wrong way while sliding down fast. Disclaimer: I'm an overly-cautious person on these kind of things.

Leave the watch at the hotel if you can. When going on rides, you will have no control on how you react. Sure they are durable but let’s not be silly.

My only worry would be catching the clasp or bracelet edge on something. A NATO strap might make me a lot more accepting of sliding along sections of joined tubes. Your wife doesn't have that option really. Otherwise, keep you hands in a bit and enjoy. Home owners insurance for the win.

A true rugged Texan would wear his tool watch to the water park. They are not dangerous places. Worst case scenario you shatter a sapphire and need an extensive repair. This could also happen walking in the rain, causing a slip and a fall.

Just watch for catching it on something, otherwise enjoy wearing it !

Ask if the hotel has a safety deposit box room. Most have them. If not, ask for the watches to be stored at the front desk's safe.

I usually wear my watch everywhere but last year while at Hershey Park I had to avoid a few rides because I knew I would probably wack the bezel against a metal post or two.

I would wear it but I think that water parks are dirty and disgusting and wouldn't go to one. My kids do like them though!

Almost in exactly the same boat (or inner tube?); visiting Disney soon and going to one of their water parks, and was wondering whether to bring the watch. I’ve never been to a water park and don’t know what to expect (other than that some of the slides are crazy tall), but would also feel weird leaving the watch in the room.

Let us know what you decide to do and how it goes!

I take my kids to water parks quite often and would never wear a watch. I would say the chances of damage would be quite a bit greater then the chances someone breaks into your room and then breaks into your safe. I am not one to baby my watches at all but wearing one when at least some damage is almost guaranteed just seems silly to me. I would rather enjoy time with my kids then worrying about my watch.

No worries at all. Not even the slightest. Sure they'll get banged around and some scratches, but so what.

Go... enjoy

We take ours to parks, the beach / ocean, paddle boarding, off-road biking... and just today while fixing the wife's daughter's boyfriend's friend's car (AC and radiator problem).

It's pretty unlikely that your watch will encounter anything that would damage it without damaging the wrist that it is on at a waterpark or most other typical tourist/weekend adventures.

But I agree that if you are going to fret, maybe wearing it is not for you.

I think most any Rolex could handle a water park. If you are seriously worried about it getting scratched than maybe leaving it hidden and locked in the car is a good alternative.

I did take my TT Blue Sub to the water park in Nassau. I went down some giant water slide
lickety slick and lo and behold. No watch on my wrist when I splashed into the pool.

I dove to the bottom of the pool and found my watch despite the help insisting it couldn’t be there.

Lesson learned. Many signs warning not to wear a watch, too.

So, it’s NOT safe to wear in a water park.

I've worn many a watch hiking, swimming, camping, while in the military, etc. Never had problems, but they do have the scratches to go with the use. Latest trip was to Puerto Rico in June. Went on a rainforest excursion which included hiking, swimming, rope swings, waterfall slides, and 40ft cliff jumps. All wearing my BLNR.

I've seen it beaten, boiled, frozen etc and survived. Never seen it left in a jar of pee though.

If you want to keep track of the time during the day, wear it! If not, leave it!

I wouldn't as you could bump the watch (e.g. in a slide). Swimming is no issue though for a Sub or DJ

Use a little caution and you can actually make it through a day at a water park without banging your watch on anything.

Amusement parks do involve risks and we are reminded of that all too often, so I wouldn't resort to shaming someone who's just interested in protecting his belongings.

The number one reason I chose Rolex was because I would almost never need to ask myself these types of questions.
